Great Singer

Rondall Banks. Here is an person I would give anything if he was still alive but he's not but this playlist the very best of Dan Fogelberg is just that it's great and yes it has my favorite song on there Longer so if ever loved this singer or the song longer than grab cd and add it to your collection.

Dan Fogelberg: A vastly underrated singer/songwriter
I absolutely hate those cheap-looking jewel cases (plastic), so I am very pleased about the cardboard sleeve (almost like an old vinyl record). I am a Dan Fogelberg fanatic, and I have been waiting for someone to release a greatest hits set with beautiful packaging, and here it is, finally. And there's a very charming picture of Dan from the photo session for the Captured Angel album. The sound quality is superb, too.

This collection includes all the hits (except the minor hit Believe In Me) plus a couple of excellent album tracks, the edgy Phoenix and the fan favorite There's A Place In The World For A Gambler. For a single disc compilation this is probably closer to 4 stars, since it could've and should've included a couple more songs, but I'll gladly add another star for the beautiful packaging.

For now, Playlist: The Very Best Of Dan Fogelberg is the best and most beautifully packaged Fogelberg compilation available (not counting the 4-cd Portrait box set).
And that includes The Very Best Of Dan Fogelberg (2001), which omits the essential hit The Power Of Gold. . .

That said, though, I really do think it's time for a double disc compilation, including such songs as To The Morning, The River, Illinois, The Last Nail, Scarecrow's Dream, Dancing Shoes, Beggar's Game, The Reach, etc. Dan Fogelberg's legacy deserves it! So what do you say, Rhino Records?.

Love Dan, But This Is Pointless
Greatest Hits are already out there and there are no new tracks here. So, this is some new way to repackage a great 70s artist? I don't get it. And it's not even a creative mix that should include Scarecrow's Dream, Stars, Changing Horses, Innocent Age and Windows and Walls. If you heard those songs, you know what I mean. Instead, it includes some hits that really don't hold up so well, like Run For the Roses, and lesser efforts, like Phoenix. I'm pretty suspicious of the first reviewer too, because Dan wasn't from the 80's really and it's seems like stock praise from someone who works for whomever came up with this.

Fine compilation of this 1980's troubadour.
In the early 1970's he worked with Van Morrison and had done some session work in Nashville as well. Dan Fogelberg had been around the block a time or two before finally getting his break.
Along about 1974 someone at Epic records figured that Dan was an up and coming talent and signed him to a recording contract. In early 1975 Epic records released the debut single "Part of the Plan". It was a terrific tune and although it was not an especially big hit (#31) there was reason to believe that Dan Fogelberg was going to be around for a while. Over the dozen years or so Dan Fogelberg would go on to place 14 tunes on Billboard's Hot 100 Singles chart. Several were major hits.
"Playlist: The Very Best of Dan Fogelberg" offers up a total of Dan Fogelberg biggest hits and finest recordings. I found it to be an exceptionally enjoyable disc. I would compare Dan Fogelberg to singer/songwriter Jim Croce who was a rising star in the early 1970's before being killed in a car crash. Like Croce, many of Fogelberg's records told a story. My all time favorite Dan Fogelberg tune is without a doubt "Leader of the Band' from 1981. The song is extremely personal and describes the angst Dan is felling watching his beloved father aging and failing right before his eyes. I get choked up each time I hear it. Other songs in this genre are "Run For The Roses" and "Same Old Lang Syne". All are included here. You will also find Dan's biggest record ever "Longer" from 1979 as well as his outstanding duet with Tim Weisberg "The Power of Gold". I was also quite pleased to discover that Dan's fine rendition of the old pop favorite "Rhythm of the Rain" appears in this collection as well.
All in all. I am really quite pleased with "Playlist: The Very Best of Dan Fogelberg". The sound quality is superb and this one is offered at a very affordable price. Legacy makes much of the fact that this disc comes in an eco-friendly package that is fashioned from recycled cardboard. The packaging is quite attractive and the back features a remarkable amount of information in a very limited area. In addition, buyers can download more extensive liner notes from the internet. A great find at the start of the new year! Highly recommended!
