A Completely Unnecessary Compilation, But a Great Listen Chronicle is near perfect, and Chronicle II is an excellent complement. There has been no shortage of CCR compilations. On the other hand, The Long Road Home is the first compilation of John Fogerty's thirty-something year solo career. But seven songs, from seven albums fails to show that Fogerty really has had something to say over the past three decades. The Long Road Home is an abysmal summary of a great solo career. MIA are "Hearts of Stone", "Travelin' High", "Flying Away", "Rock and Roll Girls" (essential), "Big Train (From Memphis)", "Eye of the Zombie", "Change in the Weather", "Swamp River Days" (essential), "Blueboy", "Joy of My Life", "Bad Bad Boy", "Premonition" (essential), and "Honey Do". Add these thirteen songs to the seven solo songs on the album to make a fine solo retrospective. But Chronicle does a much better job of summarizing Fogerty's CCR career than the Long Road Home, and Premonition does a much better job of summarizing his solo career. Having said that, this album is a great listen, just a completely unnecessary one. Put Me In, Coach!.
a real good song selection with excellent sound!
great remastered sound with most of the songs i wanted except for "i heard it thru the grapevine" and "suzie-q" which i obtained through buying the two 20 bit k2 remastered albums/cds they came off of [cosmo's factory and the self titled creedence clearwater revival] for a few bucks each from one of amazon's sellers. i'm going to keep this short. so for what i paid for this cd and the other two albums/cds i couldn'd be happier!.
Fabulous single disc overview of the remarkable career of John Fogerty.
This multi-talented singer/songwriter/musician certainly surprised lots of people back in 1972 when he broke away from Creedence Clearwater Revival at the peak of their popularity to pursue a solo career. Back in 2005 John Fogerty settled his decades long dispute with Fantasy records and returned to the label as a solo artist. While Fogerty did experience a fair amount of success as a solo act he was hard pressed to duplicate the phenomenal run he experienced with CCR during the incredible three year period from 1968 to 1971. During this period CCR had an amazing total of 9 Top Ten hits! Now all these years later comes a pretty comprehensive single disc collection featuring many of those great CCR tunes and a number of Fogerty's solo hits as well. "The Long Road Home: The Ultimate John Fogerty/Creedence Collection" offers up 25 of the biggest and best tunes penned by this legendary performer.
If the hits are what you are looking for you then "The Long Road Home" certainly does not disappoint. Included in this collection are 14 of Creedence Clearwater Revival's biggest and best tunes including "Bad Moon Rising", "Down On The Corner" as well as the band's first big hit "Proud Mary" from early 1969. I was certainly quite pleased to find some of my favorite CCR hits as well including "Have You Ever Seen The Rain", "Lookin' Out My Back Door" and "Who'll Stop The Rain". These are all the original Fantasy recordings you would remember from the radio. Now one of Fogerty's first solo efforts was a song called "Rockin' All Over The World" which was a fairly substantial hit in the Fall of 1975. You will find a rollicking "live" version of this tune included here. During the mid-80's John Fogerty returned to the Top Ten with "The Old Man Down The Road" and had another major hit with the song "Centerfield". That song is still being played in both major and minor league ballparks all over America more than two decades after its release. Both of these tunes are included here as well. I was also happy to find that "Almost Saturday Night", a terrific tune from one of Fogerty's 1990's albums, was included here as well.
As a collector, the thing that appealed to me most about "The Long Road Home: The Ultimate John Fogerty/Creedence Collection" was that I could find John Fogerty's best work with Creedence and as a solo act all in one place. In addition, I found the half dozen or so newly-recorded "live" tracks to be quite enjoyable as well. All in all, this one is a fine addition to my collection. Highly recommended!.
bad disk
I didnt want to try to waste time sending it back. Not sure if it was a good cd or not, I assume it was just by looking at songs on the sleeve, but the disk would not work. thats a pain, .
Awesome
Even if you don't think you like CCR and John Fogerty, you'll like some of the songs in this set. This CD set has a great collection of songs and will be enjoyed by CCR fans and people who just like good music. .
