Still Going Strong
Amazing how this CD came out in 2008 or so and it still sounds so similar to John's Creedence Days. Love that Roots Rock by good old John Fogerty. It shows when you have a good thing you stick to it. Twelve good rootsy songs that are no longer than four minutes each. The CD closer Longshot is my personal favorite but the first one, Don't You Wish It Were True probably seems like the best choice for a single. Broken Down Cowboy is another standout tune where John discusses his own mortality. Good music like nearly everything from this legend.


Good Rockin' From A Legend
(Okay, it's not a record, I admit). What a great album. What a great CD. Fogerty's voice is a unique instrument, and with the band and material here, it shines well. Good solid rock and rock. Clean arrangements and snappy writing will have you reaching for the volume. Enjoy!.


Back in the saddle
A couple of stand outs- opening track-"Don't you wish it were true" is his lament on life in the post 2001 era, a kind of reflection of what might have been,excellent!"Creedence song" captures the flavor of Creedence and stays in your head, the drummer Kenny Aronoff is one of the great rock n roll drummers and has truly enlivened Fogerty. John Fogerty, one of the legendary guitar heroes doesn't disappoint! If you loved CCR, you'll enjoy this. "Broken Down Cowboy" is probably a what if by the grace of God song for him. The fact that he can see himself from all these angles is the testament to a honest and dedicated artist! Love the music and the man.


Another ageing rocker?
He was also a talented multi-instrumentalist, but not a master of any of them. Fogerty wrote and performed some of the best pop songs of the late 60s. This shows with his guitar work, which is competent 50s rocker, but not in the same league as Clapton, Allman et al. His voice changed when he stopped smoking and age weakened its power considerably. There's nothing wrong with that - it happens. But, to then try and do what you did 40 years ago is bound to disappoint. He is not the same guy emotionally, intellectually, and physically. His fans from those days are deluding themselves if they think this is as good as the original classics of CCR. It isn't; songs aren't as good, the voice has matured, and times are different. Fogerty once made a country album "Blue Ridge Rangers" and, I suggest, that is the sort of material he should be looking at now. The catalogue is vast, very adaptable, and would suit his voice and image. He should also be able to write very good country music. The past is gone, let it lie.


One Of The Best Albums Of The Year
Turns out I was right. I predicted that a lot of the one star reviews on here for John Fogerty's latest album, Revival, would be because people didn't want to hear his political views. That's a shame really. I guess I must be one of the lucky ones who can listen to Lynard Skynard as well as U2. That's one of the great things about music; people can use it to state their views. And for me it's still possible to enjoy music without necessarily agreeing with the artist's message.

And what about Revival? As my title states, I find it to be one of the best albums of the year. A variety of music, a little CCR sound, some intense and passionate singing, mixed with clever and sometimes angry lyrics gives this album real distinction over Fogerty's previous effort of Deja Vu, which was a pretty darn good album in it's own right. This one is his slam dunk.

And if there are any Cheap Trick fans reading this who are on the fence with Revival, consider this album to be Fogerty's "Rockford. ".
