My Six String Shooter is Packed & Ready to Fire! People tend to think of "Fool for the City," & "Energized" when they think Foghat. Four Stars = Classic
"Rock and Roll Outlaws", along with "Night Shift" are the two dark horses in Foghat's catalog, & the two best ones, I believe. Good albums they are, but I'll take the former two, "Rock and Roll Outlaws" & "Night Shift," all day long over those.
I turned on to Foghat in the mid 70's. The first album I got from them & the one I still think is best is "Rock and Roll Outlaws. This album is full of straight ahead heavy blues/boogey/rock, & probably their most energetic & heaviest album as a whole. It includes the killer "Eight Days on the Road," metallic & shiny with sharp hooks to stick in your brain. The namesake song "Rock and Roll Outlaws" is a rollicking rocking tune, its chorus will stick in you head for days! The ballad, "Trouble in my Way," is a reflective thoughtful song; it is as good as a ballad as you're apt to hear from Foghat. "Shirley Jean" & "Blue Spruce Woman," are Foghat at their boogie best, filled with memorable hooks, guitars, & rhythm. "Hate to See You Go" & "Dreamer," are straight out rockers. The last song on this album "Chateau Lafitte '59 Boogie," is just that, one undisputedly great hard rocking, hard drinking, boogey song. My favorite of the album & my favorite song of alcoholic debauchery ever! It helped send me on the road to beer, booze, & womanizing! God I love that song!
All in all, "Rock and Roll Outlaws," is not to be missed for anyone that likes Foghat, but is not familiar with this album. So get your beer, whiskey, & wine. You'll need it, & turn the stereo up loud!
Here's to you! Bottoms up!

A Great Foghat Album, Now Even Better
The album has been underrated in the group's pantheon for several reasons. ROCK AND ROLL OUTLAWS, Foghat's follow-up to ENERGIZED , has now been given a warm, crisp remastering by Wounded Bird Records. First, it failed to achieve the commercial success of either its predecessor or the follow-up, FOOL FOR THE CITY. Secondly, it didn't have any stand-out songs along the lines of "Fool For The City", "Slow Ride", or "Save Your Lovin' (For Me). " Third, the album seemed a little bit overly calculated and consistent for fans, who couldn't easily pick out a favorite song from the album. Nevertheless, this is a great CD that shouldn't be missed.
Great Foghat album!
My favorite, though, has to be "Chateau Lafitte 59 Boogie"! I fell in love with this band back when I was in college, and although my taste in music have broadened hugely since then, I still like to dig out one of my Foghat CDs once in awhile for old times sake and rock out to Foghat! I just love Rod Price's slide guitar and Dave's vocals - they helped make the band unique. I always liked this CD - it was one of my favorites! I can't say there's a song on this album I don't like. After the deaths of Rod Price and Dave Peverett, the band has re-formed with several new members, but, to me, it doesn't sound much like the original band. This album is one of their best! I also recommend Energized, Night Shift, and The Return of the Boogie Men.
I did notice that it said this was a "remastered" version, which means they took the original master tapes back into the studio and did some re-mixing too. I can hear some of the effects they added or enhanced just listening to the clips here on my computer. I generally like what they've done remastering older music, but not always. Sometimes the guys at the mixer get a little carried away. .
The best they ever did
"Chateau Lafite '59" was a great vintage. This was a great party album that stands the test of time. We sure had a real good time. "Blue Spruce Woman" was a friend of mine. And yours. There isn't a loser on the CD. Be careful to keep it out of the car because it can make you forget times have changed and costs of bad behavior have gone up. .
need my foghat
Most
people know thier hits but they go much deeper than the surface. Another 70's band with killer music and brilliant musicians. Straight
ahead feel good rock and roll and nothing less. Great guitar by the late
Rod Price and lonesome Dave. This cd is right before Fool For the City
and is just as good if not better. Got to hear it, got to have it.
