Buy it for 'I'll Do the Driving'
WOW, what a song. Hey, I don't actually own this single but I have the mp3 of the b-side 'I'll Do the Driving' and it's been buzzing around in my head for the past few days now. The melody is perfect, the arrangement is very unique to the Fountains of Wayne 'catalog,' and the lyrics are very dry and funny in a sad way (just the way I like my FoW lyrics). In fact they're so great I'm going to just copy and paste them onto the body of this review; here they are:

She knows nothing at all about nothing
The moment I saw her was something I found alarming
That certain nothing behind her eyes

TV, she finds intoxicating
Shows about cops and dating
She has a soft spot
For cops who are robots

And I don't know where this is going
But I've got a feeling
I'll do the driving from now on

Sometimes we stare at the stars from my roof
She wants to know if they are fire proof
I say I guess so, how else can they glow on for so long

We're out, the jukebox plays 'Jumping Jack Flash'
She says, 'I love Johnny Cash, the man in red. '
I turn my head and pretend not to hear what she said

And I don't know where this is going
But I've got a feeling
I'll do the driving from now on

And I don't know where this is going
But I've got a feeling
I'll do the driving from now on

The song has a nice mid-tempo 6/8 feel to it, with some sort of bass drum/symbol smash combo on each of the last three beats of every measure. It gives it a kind of momentum that carries the song all the way through. MAN, this song. I can't get over it right now. Just please buy the single (or is it out of print?), or harrass the morons over at Atlantic to release these B-sides on I-tunes so we aren't forced to break the law in downloading b-sides through illegal file-sharing programs. Just put up the content! It won't cost you a dime! Anyway, trust me and check it out if you are a Fountains of Wayne fan. Why wasn't it included in the Utopia Parkway album? Answer me that Atlantic! You FoW-dropping meatheads!.

This song is AWESOME!!!
"Denise" is as catchy or more than "Radiation Vibe" and "Leave the Biker" from Fountain of Wayne's first CD. Why didn't this song get released to every radio station in America and go number one? This song is EXTREMELY catchy. This fast paced song has a great sound to it that gets stuck in your head and has great lyrics. If you like this song, and trust me, you'll LOVE it, then go buy Fountain of Wayne's newest CD Utopia Parkway. Fountains of Wayne never fail to come up with great songs, and "Denise" is one of their best.
