FoW - at their best!
It was poppy, it was melodic, it was fast paced, and it quickly insinuated itself into your consciousness. When Fountains of Wayne released their album Utopia Parkway, it was obvious that at least one of their singles had to be Red Dragon Tatoo. This was pop-rock at it's absolute best! So, when the song came out as a single with a promise of two bonus non-album tracks, I jumped at the chance. After all, who could hate anything written by the excellent song writers of FoW?

After listening to the disc, I was not surprised to hear great melodies, the occasional harmony, and three well crafted pop-songs. However, I must admit I was a little surprised after hearing the second track "Today's Teardrops". It was two minutes of pure country-esque rock. While I'm not a big fan of country music, there was enough FoW in it to make it acceptable, and the shock value was worth it in itself. Their last track "Nightlight" is a slow ballad, reminiscient of their song "Everything's Ruined". It implements some interesting alternative instruments, including what sounds like a sitar, and hand drums's. The over all effect is very dreamlike and soothing.

I don't regret buying this CD single. The bonus tracks were hardly cast offs, and seem to be b-sides for the mere reason that they didn't fit into the cast of Utopia Parkway. If you are a fan of Fountains of Wayne, I would definitely suggest you buy this single. It's worth owning.
