A nice R&B addition to my collection from this era.

I have no complaints about the sound quality of the set I got and it comes with a small but informative booklet along with some nice pictures of the group. If you like Smokey Robinson & the Miracles, The Temptations, Marvin Gaye and Sam Cooke music you need to add The Four Tops to your collection.

This 2 CD set has 24 of their Top 40 hits from 1964-1988 but I preferred their '60s stuff.
What you get is 48 songs, 2:37:51 total time of R&B with one that could be classified a rocker and another (Mean Green Mother From Outer Space) that was in the soundtrack of the cult classic Little Shop Of Horrors (1986).

Here's what I said about that song:
"Something Screamin' Jay Hawkins might have done. Their weirdest song that was on the movie soundtrack Little Shop Of Horrors-1986. "

They tapered off in what we loved about them around 1973 but you'll find some songs after that that are above average but may not find a place in your compilations.

MY ADVICE: You could find a single CD instead, but be aware that some people complained about the sound quality on The Ultimate Collection (1997).
My second choice would be Anthology (1990).

Romance to the Music
At their best, they drove a strong emotional lyric married to a memorable melody with that addictive beat, "When you see me smiling, you know that things haven't gotten worse; Any smile you might see has all been rehearsed. From the first bars of "Baby I Need Your Lovin'," the Four Tops' music was passionate. " The piano opening on the #1 hit "I Can't Help Myself (Sugar Pie Honey Bunch)" grabs you & refuses to let go, "When I call your name, girl it starts to flame, burning in my heart, tear it all apart. " "It's the Same Old Song" pumps sounding upbeat while the lyric speaks of heartache, "We used to dance to the music; Make romance to the music. " The classic opening on "Reach Out I'll Be There" builds; and a few beats of the tambourine announces the chorus while Levi's vocals grab you and won't let go, "I'll be there to love & comfort you & I'll be there to cherish & care for you. " Top ten classics "Standing in the Shadows of Love" & "Bernadette" sound great remastered here. One of my favorites was their cover of "Walk Away Renee" which took the lovely melody and framed it in a classic soul arrangement. "I'm In a Different World" didn't set the charts on fire, but is a strong classic Tops track. Their take on the classic "It's All In the Game" cruises on a string arrangement & charms. The first disc is all from their Motown classics while the second disc combines sides from Motown, Geffen, Island, Polydor & Arista. "Anthology" is a comprehensive collection, well worth the investment to overview this classic band. Enjoy! .

Four Tops
The music played low. . . . The tone was off a bit. I opened it and would like to return this product for another.

Four Tops Anniversary
Would recommend ordering from AMAZON!. The product was delivered in a timely manner and excellent (NEW) condition.

EXCELLENT!!!

This has to be THE BEST 4 Tops compilation on the market. This review refers to the 2 cd Hip-O version as there are many 4 Tops compilations out there and Amazon has a tendency to jumble reviews for different cd's together. The mastering is great. These are all STEREO MIXES and I'm hearing stuff I've never heard before and i'm familiar with the earlier singles from when they were initially released. The price is low for a two cd set of this quality so you're getting more than your money's worth. Hip O should be commended for producing this package. .
