Frampton is great, but this is not his best.
All of his better stuff is pre-"Comes Alive" (from his first four studio albums). This album is a rehash of "Comes Alive" with some new stuff that is really just an attempt to sell his later albums. That's my opinion hsving only heard snippets of his later stuff plus this live album, but I think I've heard enough.
This could have been a great album if he had included old songs like "The Lodger", "Lady Lieright", "Don't Fade Away", "Just The Time of Year", and "Apple of Your Eye". Most (all?) great rock musicians peak on their second album and then fade away. Frampton has two really good studio albums, "Camel" (#2)and "Frampton" (#4). Then he, like everyone else, ran out of ideas or, perhaps, just the necessary artistic edge.
I am also not crazy about his new style. He may be a more accomplished guitarist now, but, again, he lacks the intellectual edge he once had.
So I am not busting on Frampton, I'm just saying your money would be better spent on one or more of his first four albums. In fact, Amazon has his first two albums in a set for about $12. Your money would be better spent on that. Then get "Frampton" and, if you must, "Something's Happening". Even the songs you already have on your personal copy of "Comes Alive" are very delightful on the studio albums.

Great Live Set
It accurately captures Frampton at his best with his masterful playing and wry sense of humor. This is one of my favorite live recordings of all time. Put in this CD, turn your stereo up as loud as it will go, and blast "I Don't Need No Doctor" until the neighbors complain. It's worth it. .

It's an ok performance....
The performance is OK. . . Frampton should have stuck to NEWER material. . . as he did with the FRAMPTON COMES ALIVE II back in 1995. . . . The current versions of "Do you feel like we do" are weak and he should have done alot less on the talk box. . . it was cheesy. . .

As I pointed out in the review I did for COMES ALIVE II. . . Frampton himself always stated that his material was best suited for the stage. . . . He should have used this media to introduce all new songs that were omitted on the last 3 live album sets from 1975. . 1976 and 1995.

Should he decide to do a COMES ALIVE III. . . that might be an idea.

Not as good as DVD
It has an abbreviated song list, as usual. The DVD is great! The CD, however, falls short. While I'm a able to do without Penny For Your Thoughts and I'll Give You Money, how can they possibly leave out Baby (Somethin's Happening)?!! This opening song sets the tone for the entire concert! I'm very disappointed that I didn't review the track list prior to purchase. Get the DVD. You'll enjoy the concert much more!.

Live in Detroit
And he's developed a mature irony to go along with his chops. Frampton can still kick it out, is the short version. The version of "Do You Feel Like We Do" rocks as titanically as the _Alive_ version did. But this one includes a rollicking, funky piano breakdown, as well as a more boisterous bass line. The crowd roars in anticipation of the by now familiar climaxes, but they still sound fresh, nonetheless. And Frampton is on to himself as rock dinosaur, never taking himself too seriously. At one point, during the talkbox section, he even breaks into a little Austin Powers routine. "Yeah, baybee!" A treat!.
