THE MOST OVERRATED PIECE OF GARBAGE EVER! Rather than being a musical touchstone it was more like an infestation. You would have been hard pressed to go through anyone's 70's album collection and not run across this as well as Fleetwood Mac and Rumors. The mere sight of this album cover makes me want to decapitate a small furry rodent. I'll show you the way, Peter.
Top 2 live performer of the 70s
Some friends who had seen him live were ecstatic about him, so we piled into the car and off we drove on three road trips, time well spent. By dumb luck, I happened to see Frampton three times in a mater of a few months when he was taking off.
At American University in DC, Spirit was the warm up band followed by Frampton. We were center stage, something like row ten.
Each concert, Frampton blew me away, I had already seen everyone worth seeing with good seats. Frampton Comes Alive is a gross understatement, "Frampton Dwarfs all other Live Performances" would be more accurate but I can see where the PR guys might have trouble marketing it.
Barring the invention of a time machine, Comes Alive is as close as you can get; unfortunately, the magic Frampton had on stage can never be put into a package. Frampton's vocals, voice box and his guitar were three working as one.
To find a concert date, check out his web site; he still tours. I'm sure he can still make a guitar sing.

The other top two live band, which I had very very low expectations for, was Jefferson Starship with Grace Slick and Marty Balin at the Capitol Center in Maryland.
My date wanted to go, so I sucked it up and contemplated how I would look interested for three hours at a concert I didn't want to hear. The date was a bomb, the concert blew me away from the opening curtain to the last note.
The stage magic between Slick and Balin, unfortunately, can not be put into a bottle either. Two as one.
A pleasant surprise
My vinyl copy was lost in a flood and I decided it was time to restore Frampton Comes Alive to my CD collection. It's been a long time since I've heard the original Frampton Comes Alive. I decided to take a chance with the "new, improved" edition, despite comments to the contrary (notably about the added tracks). I'm very glad I went with the 25th anniversary edition. The altered tracking and added material fills out what had been more of a collection of live cuts. The new release pulls the "show" into a cohesive program. The re-engineering is as good as anything re-engineered and in release now. Even that darn firecracker in Wind of Change sounds sharper. All in all, the 25th anniversary version of this classic is a pleasant surprise. .
Not any better than the original
There is too much noise that should have been filtered out in the remastering. I was pretty disappointed in the quality of this release. I was expecting it to be cleaned up versus the original LP. IMO, not worthy of a deluxe edition.
Having said that, the live performace is top-notch and the extra tracks are nice.
Frampton comes alive 25th anniv
I'm gonna order another one and keep it sealed. wow great album, they added some songs that were not on the original recording.
Service was excellent as always.
