Great deal... well "sorta" Last year I wanted to get some Peter Frampton and was about to order a copy of Frampton Comes Alive on CD. I bought my first copy of Frampton Comes Alive, late in '75, and was playing it at parties before it got radio air time and went ballistic as it were. . .
I saw Peter Frampton Gold at a club store and looked at the songs and thought there's everything that I want here. Well, the songs are all here alright, but most of them are studio versions, and although without doubt, Frampton is one of the finest guitar players of the "Rock Era", he is so much better of a live performer, that the studio versions of these songs show the difference in Frampton's Solo career before and after the release of "Comes Alive". Consequently this CD, has mostly stayed in the CD cabinet at home, (I took it out this morning and gave it another try, but with the exception of "A penny for your thoughts", (which might actually be better than the live version), the only songs I really enjoyed were the live songs sparingly interspersed through out the set.
So here's the deal, if you already have "Comes Alive" on CD, you may be very happy with "Gold" otherwise I'd suggest you save your money and buy "Comes Alive" which on top of being one of the best selling albums of all time, is also one of the best.
.
If this is the ONLY Frampton cd you buy this year...
This cd compiles songs from his early solo albums thru the 2003 release of Now. If this is the only Frampton cd you buy this year, you will not be wasting your money. Most but not all of the best songs from those albums are included on this. You will miss out on some great songs just buying this, but if your not a big Frampton Fan, this cd will turn you into one! .
Do you feel like we do.
Great CD!. I really wanted the CD for the live version of "Do you feel like we do", and I was not disappointed.
A Great Retrospective
He only had four major hits: "Nassau/Baby I Love Your Way", "Show Me The Way", "I'm In You" and "I Can't Stand It No More". This is by far the most comprehensive Peter Frampton collection to date spanning 1972 through 2003. The rest of the album consists of select album cuts, instrumentals and cover songs that brilliantly showcase a gifted and versatile musician who shows no signs of waning yet.
More to Peter Frampton than voicebox solos & fire crackers
Finally, a chance to show the world that there's more to Peter Frampton than voicebox solos and fire crackers. .
I have over 1,000 albums on vinyl but for some strange reason only WINDS OF CHANGE & COMES ALIVE are included. . . other Frampton albums I owned (FRAMPTON & SOMETHING'S HAPPENING) were on 8 Track.
I cannot wait to get this double CD, pop it in and crank up the volumn to, ohhh maybe 11, and listen to studio versions of ITS A PLAIN SHAME, ALL I WANT TO BE (IS BY YOUR SIDE), SOMETHIN'S HAPPENING, and NOWHERE"S TO FAR FOR MY BABY as well as the more sedate NASSAU/BABY I LOVE YOUR WAY.
And while I didn't enjoy a lot of Peter's post ALIVE output (long story, involves old girlfriend. . . ) I liked enough of it to look forward to revealing some unknown (to me)gems in Disc 2. . . and that's half the fun of these career spanning collections. There's very few performers that you can follow for an entire career .
My advise is "Buy it for Disc One, enjoy it more for Disc 2" .
