Attention!!! Amazon Marketplace Sellers!: The Remastered 2002 version not the same as original 1989 As you can see, the remastered version goes for over $20 used. Not really reviewing the content of the album itself, but to hopefully to advise those who wish to sell this on Amazon Marketplace to make sure that what they are offering is the true 2002 remastered version. What I have been sent both times is the, much cheaper, UNremastered original. The remastered version should have a copyright date of 2002. If your cd says 1989 or has rainbow stripes on the spine, you have the (ASIN: B000000OR5) 1989 version. Please, post it there!

5 stars. REALLY??? Bored to tears and a waste of an hour of time!!!!
I bought the CD based upon the 5 star rating here at Amazon. Listened to this CD 4 times before writing this reveiew. Honestly this is some of the most boring drab music ever laid to a CD. No wonder Jesus wandered 40 days in the desert. He probably had just listened to this unholy Peter Gabriel CD and wanted to see the world from where he exuded this musical tripe. Sorry this does NOT qualify as music. If I wanted to listen to GREAT sountrack music I will buy anything from Danny Elfman who at least can keep you interested while droning you to sleep. What a waste of Gabriel's talent. Tony Leven would be sad. Caveat Emptor!!!.
Powerful pretentions
Of course soundtracks generally tend to cater to background-intensive needs, though the overuse (which isn't to say some do not feel vital) of eastern-tinged electronic filler pales with some of the bolder, passionate musical risks taken. 3 1/2
Gabriel's highly effective score is an important piece of east-west-world-music-bridging via accessibly mainstream production and is worthy of some of the innovative credit thrust upon, but feels a bit overstated as being the full-fledged musical breakthrough it's often touted as. .
Zero stars
Noise it's just that simple this is not the Peter Gabriel I know, just soundtrack noise!.
Of these, Hope
I've often tried to tell people that the power of these songs are so deep to me, its almost pavlovian. Everyone that loves this record- me too - I'm not going to attempt to go over the record, I can share with you my "Passion" for the songs "Of these, Hope" and of course the Reprise of this song and its effect. . . as soon as I hear the melody beginning to form in the first song, I'm surprised by my tears beginning to form as well. Its a good thing- like an epiphany. Not "boo hoo". Well. . . it can be too. . . depends on where you are with yourself when you hear it- you might just miss it entirely. Its because to me, it evokes thoughts about life & mortality in the melody- Its true. its easy to identify with being human and hardships of life in this melody, and yet its absolute innocence and pain hidden beneath. Like a soul that will try no matter what even though its certain that the end result will be sad. (this synopsis wasn't tainted by the movie-it was what I felt as I heard it the first time) There is loss, pride, love, pain and wisdom in this 9 note melody - I'd heard the album before I'd ever seen the movie. I don't even remember seeing the movie. We'd just finished having friends together to play some music, we played all day & had a party, and afterwards people were doing their own thing. . . the sun was setting a party was breaking up. This record started playing . . . mysteriously (a friend put it on) and I was alone & was totally entranced by listening to this recording-
my life was changed by listening to this record - Thank You Peter Gabriel-. All I have to say is that even if thats all Peter Gabriel had ever done musically, it would have been enough. So he's pretty much ahead and re-written the curve- In that "stratospheric" level certain composers get to- .
