Customer Reviews Rory Gallagher : A living legend ! Ain't no sadnt is a very rhythmic blues with fresh acoustic guitar and beating riffs . The charismatic magnetism can be felt in this admirable CD. The loop is a frenetic instrumental rock & roll piece , and calling card is a very fine piece ; as the crow flies is a peaceful blues in the purest country style. Off the handle is a very expressive blues song loaded with too much feeling and may be well the crown jewel . Back on my stomping ground is a rock & roll piece with the purest essence of the fifties ; Empire state express is a very well played blues theme and one of the best tracks. Continental op and Skin kicker is the most pop rock song of the album ; it sounds so fresh and so innovative that you'll find it hard to believe and while Public enemy is an excellent blues , Pistol slapper blues may be the weakest theme in the selection . Don't start is a vivid blues piece with interesting approach who reminds to John Mayall , in which concerns to harmonica use : Nothing with the devil is a simple divertiment and while Alexis is a very good rhythmic instrumental song Barley and Grape bag we are carried for the seducting acoustic guitar to the folk essences ; optimist and nice beating. In sum from one to ten this album has 9,7 points. . GREAT HITS CD FROM THE GREAT RORY GALLAGHER! Indeed it was A Blue Day For The Blues when news of his death sent shock waves around the world. The title of this CD collection A Blue Day For The Blues in honor of the untimely passing of the legendary Blues-Rock guitar virtuoso Rory Gallagher is appropriate. This CD is 16 track fitting tribute and is excellently compiled by Jim Beisner. All corners of Rory's best work are featured and a this is a brilliant CD for all newcomers to him & his music to pick up or for those of you who don't want to grab the entire catalog. . . if I was you I'd do both! This CD is compiled from the 7 titles that I. R. S. currently holds the U. S. rights to and is a mix of studio/live-originals & covers. Man! in one lil' place we got "Bullfrog Blues", "As The Crow Flies", "Pistol Slapper Blues", "Shin Kicker" and "(Back On My) Stomping Ground" just to name a few tasters! Superb liner notes on his career and some cool pixs are featured and the sound is absolutely amazing. For some really hot Blues by one of the best players that ever lived snatch this CD up now and get into Rory!. An Introduction To Rory This is not a bad collection, but focuses a little much on some of his later releases, which are still good;even lesser Rory stuff is better than most blues rockers ever hope to achieve. One of the great masters of blues rock guitar, and wonderful storytelling songs. Some great live cuts from the seventies;"Bullfrog Blues", "As The Crow Flies"(both of which I've performed live with my own group)are among the gems. If you've never heard Rory, this isn't a bad place to start, but then again "Stagestruck" and "Live In Europe" are great in their own right and offer a few more vintage tunes. .
