So, so. Their earlier records are better overall. The band sounds great, like there's a little friendly friction and competition and they're playing off of and against each other. The disc opens up with 2 typical Garbage songs ("Bad Boyfriend" and "Run Baby Run") that could have been on either of their first 2 discs. I will say that I think this is the best that Shirley's voice has ever sounded.
The next song, "Right Between The Eyes", could have easily found its way onto a Blackhearts record. Garbage has admittedly paid homage to several bands in the past by borrowing a sound, production or style and this disk is no exception. The title track takes a musical line from U2's Joshua Tree and lyrical structures from Lou Reed's "Walk on the Wild Side". Again, Shirley's voice is dead on. The choir like harmonizing at the end of the song is hauntingly beautiful, especially in contrast to the dark subject of the song.
The next 4 songs start off sounding like a mix of their first 3 CDs and B-sides (Especially "Sex Is Not The Enemy") and each one becomes more of the same. "It's All Over But The Crying" does have some of the nicest piano I've heard on a Garbage record. "Boys Wanna Fight" and "Why Don't You Come Over" start to fizzle then "Happy Home" and "Why Do You Love Me" try to bring it back with some old rock riffs but it may be too little too late. .
If It's Their Last Album, It's A Damn Good Finale!!
Manson and the gang's music and this is hands down my favorite album, largely due to the wonderfully polished music and heavy guitar riffs! This album seems an edgier cousin to 2. Have long enjoyed Ms. 0 and it sounds amazing blasting out of speakers, with the heavy reverb, bass and spectacular guitar work here! Since Shirley is dabbling in acting currently and having a seemingly smashing time trying something new, we may well have this as our last full and original Garbage effort. If it does turn out to be their elegy and swan song, what a damn fine piece of work it is!! Wishing Garbage all the very best! -- A Fan.
Good stuff
" An old friend who was lead singer in a punk band in Canada used to complain about other bands and their sloppy guitar playing. I orignally saw Garbage in the music video "Bleed Like Me. When I heard Garbage's music again years later, through their Sound Stage performance, I was amazed at how good they were - and how hot Shirley Manson is still. This is the third album from them I've bought recently, and it's solid, consistently good, and deserves its reputation for being almost too professional in its musicianship for an "alternative" label to be applied. I sure hope they go on tour again! .
As always Garbage delivers!
A must for any Garbage fan and if you don't know who Garbage is, where have you been?! Go get this album!!. Great CD.
A Great CD From Shirley Manson & the Guys !!!!!!
This is probably the best CD from Garbage. There have already been many reviews on this one, so I'll just mention a few things. "It Rocks". It contains the hits: "Why do You Love Me", & "Bleed like Me". It contains a total of 11 songs. This is a very "up-beat", and "entergentic" cd. So if you like that kinda of rock, you should like this one. Thanks!!!!.
