Sheer poetry... I had never heard any of the songs, but I was curious to experience Art Garfunkel's own songs. I recently purchased this album. I was so impressed! His pace, the quality of the writing, his exquisite voice- so well complemented by M Sharp - not only caught but retained my attention. I listened to the album as a whole, then song by song, each time finding something more to ponder on.
I thought initially that "everything waits to be noticed" was my favorite song, but then again I love "Bounce", "The Thread", "What I love about rain", "Young and Free" and "Every now and then". . . well I don't know anymore: I like them all. I find the album excruciatingly beautiful. Yes it is soft and slow and easy to listen to, but so romantic and tender that it brings to mind images of quiet candle-lit evenings or slow walks along a peaceful beach.
My only regret is that Art Garfunkel waited so long to take this chance. If there was any doubt in my mind that he was able to write his own songs, this album gave me the answer I needed. Thank you so much for this gem!.
Every Listener Waits to be Woken Up
It's uncanny. This album represents a fascinating experiment, one that I'm not sure anybody has ever tackled before: Art Garfunkel has assembled 13 songs with no apparent connection to each other, and has managed via a seamless presentation to create an album where every single song sounds exactly like the one before it and after it. . . there's nothing to really distinguish one song from another as they all just sort of mush into each other. The title of this album is perfect because that's exactly how you feel listening to it -- every song is waiting to be noticed, or at the very least, hummed along to, but it never happens.
Every so often, these songs -- or should I say "song" since it really does feel like it's just one really loooooooooooooooooooooooong song -- sound vaguely reminiscent of a previous Garfunkel recording, such as the tepid "All My Love's Laughter" from the "Up 'Til Now" album, or an equally meandering snoozefest from the otherwise brilliant "Breakaway" album, "Same Old Tears on a New Background. " I'm not quite sure why Artie decided to team up with a couple other singers on this project, as they don't add anything to the mix, other than to cause the listener to think, "Gosh, I'll bet if he was harmonizing with Paul, this tune might actually be interesting to listen to. "
This is the type of release that usually results in an aging pop star just saying to heck with it, and next thing you know, they go out and record an album of old standards and show tunes. Oh wait.
Amazing CD
There are some great songs on this album; the songs are relaxing, soothing, and beautiful. If you are an Art Garfunkel fan, this CD is amazing. I personally have listened to it so many times that I am surprised it still plays. 5 stars and 2 thumbs way up!.
I'm So Glad I Noticed
I bought this after listening to a few snippets of the tunes available because I liked the general tone of the pieces. I looked at this because of Art Garfunkel, as I have always found his solo recordings pleasurable. I enjoy it for those two reasons, but wasn't expecting the overwhelming satisfaction I've gotten from this CD. I'd never heard the other two performers before, and am glad I've found two "new" (for me, anyway) musicians. I've since purchased all three of Maia Sharp's available recordings. Buddy Mondlock's "The Kid" is a delightful song, and the lyrics remind me of days passed. It was also a treat getting some of Art's own work for the first time. Several of the numbers evoke vivid visual experiences for me. I haven't felt this good about something relatively new in a long time. I'd love to hear another effort from these three folks. .
Pop/Folk Perfection
I know it sounds corny, but Art Garfunkel is one of the few people who can pull off such a feat. It's been a long time since I've heard 3 voices effortlessly work together to create something so special; Sure, there are some 'la la' type songs here, but there is alot of material here with both considerable lyrical and musical depth; Every song offers something unique; 'Bounce' is pop perfection, while 'The Kid' offers a heartfelt story of missed opportunities and lost love. And with the addition of Maia Sharp and Buddy Mondlock, he has assembled a flawless pop/folk/country/bluegrass offering. I was so impressed with this album; And while there are 2 songs on this CD I can't stand, I still call it a perfect album for what it is trying to be. Very relaxing after a long day. . . Great production, too. Every time I listen through headphones I hear a new layer of harmonies or a gently spoken phrase off in the distance; This is obviously an album created with a love of music and a passion for all that is life. And no, I haven't been drinking. That's just how I see it. . . .
