Customer Reviews One of the Better Aviv Gefen albums At 17 years of age, things were looking bright. Aviv Gefen's debut album was an exciting if not very original blend of retro and modern rock. Several years and albums later, Aviv insisted that the only way to make music was to dwell in the same safe formula of the previous albums, i. e - depression, anger, family problems etc etc. . The fans loved it but this also hindered his growth as a musician and songrwriter. 1996 "The Letter" saw Gefen opening up his sound slightly. A colaboration with Berry Sakharov saw the creation of "Hollowed" in 1998. That album saw a much more daring and experimental Gefen. Still using the angry young man songwriting approach, the songs mixed with the industrial electronics, took on a new and more interesting form. Unfortunately, fans didn't seems to care for his new direction and the album flopped. Gefen reverted to a more conventional ear-friendly sound on Leilot Levanim. This seems to be the album that was waiting to be released after "The Letter". The trademark Gefen sound is opened even further, allowing for lush orchestation of string, sitar, keyboards and other elements. Most of the songs are mellow, melodic and enjoyable. An exception is a silly tracks were Gefen wails like a baby on acoustic guitar. Gefen had also slightly matured and this album saw him discarding most of the angst, left-wing political statements. Gefen's harsh voice is also more refined and restrained on this record. Gefen managed to create a commercialy sucessful album that did not tread on previous paths. Despite this, die hard fans were not impressed - but to me this album is a winner.
The best Israeli music ever!
