DEFINITELY ONE OF THE "THE ONES" TO OWN
Frampton Comes Alive. . Kiss Alive. . . Deep Purple: Made in Japan. . . Springsteen Live. . . Genesis: Seconds Out. . .

Live albums are generally thrown-out, contractual obligations albums that are, often, poorly produced and the performances sub-par. And then, there are the exceptions, where a live album can, literally, make a career happen. Such is the case with Genesis: Seconds Out. Outside of Genesis' first live effort, this one is a monstrous epic. Phil Collins, Bill Bruford, and Chester Thompson's drums are like charging herd of buffalo; Steve Hackett's guitar soars into the stratosphere; Tony Bank's keyboards cannot be challenged on any level; and Mike Rutherford's bass is just the beast. All that's missing is the blinding 70s Genesis light show. There's supposed to be more films footage of this show around, apart from the clips on youtube -- a reworked DVD would be the icing on this magnificent cake.

Remastered Edition ? quite disapointing sound

Too bad as well that the CD cover inlay does not include more infos, or a small booklet to give more infos for the "definitive edition" : in fact there are less than the original album (some pictures have been thrown away)

My advise : this album is great, but aim for the non final mix edition or better catch the LP's if you can

. I wanted to purchase this album for enjoying Genesis while driving (having the good old LP's) but as for other Genesis so-called "definitive remastered edition" I am very disapointed with the "flatening" effect of the end result : all guitars from Steve Hackett that are usually so crystal-clear and play like watermarks over Tony Banks keyboards are "drowned" into a melting pot and even the famous drums solo duo looks like an anemic copy of the first recording.

There was a time when post-Gabriel Genesis had greatness
The thing that sets "Seconds Out" apart (for me anyway), is how seamless the transition seems from former front man Peter Gabriel to drummer turned front man Phil Collins. Don't get me wrong, I'm a fan of "Invisible Touch" and everything before and after by the (now) trio. Collins handles the Gabriel era material masterfully, and with an added wink to boot. This album also showcases great songs from the "A Trick of the Tail" and "Wind and Wuthering" releases, although the latter could have been better represented.

This album also serves as the last Genesis project with guitarist Steve Hackett, one of rock's truly underrated stringmen and unsung heroes. His work here is firmly above top notch. Tony Banks' dazzling keyboard work proves that he may not have been as flashy as Rick Wakeman or Keith Emerson, but he was no less imposing. What's also noticeable is how respectful the Parisian audience is to the music; they actually listen to every note of the performance and cheer happily between songs.

This is worth every penny just for the second disc alone. "Supper's Ready" is the real stand out here, and "Cinema Show" is exquisite. Highly recommended! .

Almost Perfect!

Suffice it to say this is a phenominal album. I'll not yammer on about the differences between pre and post Gabriel Genesis.

The ONLY reason I gave it 4 instead of 5 stars is because Genesis did not put out a 3 Album/Disc version of Seconds Out. There was and somewhere still IS PLENTY of material that could have been put to vinyl. I'm also a bit disapointed that there is no DVD to watch on my flat screen.

If Genesis would put it out I'm confident it'd sell like hotcakes.

This is Genesis at their prime.

Seconds Out

The Musical Box, is one of my farvorite songs on the CD. This is a great CD excellent live performance by Genesis. Sit back an enjoy the music.
