Guilty Pleasures In most regards, they weren't even interesting. The Get Up Kids were not a groundbreaking act. Most of their lyrics are ridiculously cliched, all of their music very clearly derivative of their pop-punk meets emo roots. Following in the footsteps of two very successful formulas, it seems like all they really needed for mainstream success were attractive frontmen, which they had in spades.
The real secret behind The Get Up Kids' lasting ability is that they wrote nearly perfect pop songs full of easily remembered and repeatable one-liners that all have universal appeal. What seems to be simply a cliched whiney pop song about a girl happens to be exactly that, but it's executed flawlessly. If you've ever listened to Something to Write Home About you've heard them at the apex of their craft. You've tapped your foot, you've bobbed your head, and you've driven too fast with the windows down screaming the lyrics alone in the middle of the summer. No matter where you were in life, no matter where you are now, Something to Write Home about will always stick in your head, in a good way.
Even if you do feel guilty about it.
The Best Album by the Kids
I have every album the Get Up Kids have released and this is by far my favorite. Simply put, it is the best album from one of the greatest bands of all time. I cannot think of a person that would not enjoy this album. I would give it one hundred out of one hundred stars, if i could.
Gotta have it!
One of the best real emo albums forever!
It's a shame that they broke up. .
Thanks TGUK!!!.
I liked this CD
Just to give the reader an idea, I like this album a lot more than the other releases that they have made. Well the band might have broken up, but this CD is good. I give this album a four, because there are two songs that have kinda like the same background music to them only with different arrangements, but same chords. Other than that the cd is great. If you like emo, with guitar and keyboard sounds, you will like this CD. It is soft not so PuNKISH, but great!
Also if you happen to like this CD, you will like "The Get Up Kids" X-Keyboard player's Album, "Songs Not to Get Married To", by Reggie and the Full Effect.
Quality
Most of the songs are upbeat with catchy guitars and synth/piano (actually all the elements of the songs are). I can't exactly remember when or where i first got my hands on this cd, but it has become one of my treasured cd's. The songs run together nicely and blend so well that i would recommend listening to this album from start to finish everytime. The lyrics are clever, well written, and stick in your head (for all the right reasons). There is often a play on words in the lyrics and it kind of keeps you listening and thinking about them. I realy have nothing bad to say about this album. even from a technical view point it is solid. . . not overdone. . . good mixing. I would recommend this cd to anyone into this kind of music and if you like any other get up kids material this is a must have. possibly the high point (in my opinion) of their career. R. I. P. amazing last show in philly. .
