My favorite find of 2001 Hopefully she will tour US soon because she is not to be missed live. My husband and I listened to this CD obsessively after seeing her in concert in Manchester England last year. This girl is musical crackerjack This Girl Is Taking Bets will snag you immediately with its rollicking rhythm and boundless energy. Barring the spoken word enigma that is Don't Set Foot Over The Railway Track, which is a make or break health warning for any who want to venture into the world of Thea Gilmore, this is an excellent little collection from an extraordinarily talented young songwriter. It rocks along with a brilliant hook, and Gilmore sings and plays as if she is an old hand at rhythm and blues. And she is really, seeing as she's been at this game for three years already - and yet still only twenty-one! Gun Cotton is a brooding political diatribe, driven along with great waves of chords over the chorus. You Tell Me and Straight Up have Thea alone with her acoustic guitar. The latter is a cover of the Paula Abdul number, a favourite among concert goers, and the former is a percussive repetition in which Thea admits that she is not as wise as she appears to be.
