Engaging album The songs take some time to grow on the listener but stick with it and you will unearth some gems here. Interesting early album from a pioneering Dutch band.
Can't Get Enough!
Yellow and Blue - a great morning song with
flute and a funny emphasis on the word calendar but its got a great point of course. At first I didn't really like the album that much but it grew on me quickly. The Loner is a good rock story. I don't like See, See- too much word play or as Long as the Wind Blows but Big Tree, Blue Sea is great and interesting to hear the original version but what makes the whole thing well worthwhile is Send my Pigeons to the Sky. Don't misjudge this song by the title-it seriously rocks. The Wall of Dolls is great also- I can see where the Uriah Heep comparisons come from. This is the time of the Year is a great rocker in the early Golden Earring
style.
Long Lost LP..............................
I had this album in 71' and I remembered the TULL-type flute but when I recieved this ahead of its time cd from amazon,my ears gladly welcomed an old friend. I HAD FORGOTTEN. . . this is an "every-song-is-great"CD. . . . . . . . also excellent is original album cover and inside photo / plus crisp audio!!!!!!!!!!!.
the best early earring:by far!!!
it rocks hard and the flute playing is great, adds an eirry atmosphere to it. every song on this is solid and engaging,"big tree, blue sea" is the best tune here, clocking in at 6-minutes,this song does more with the jethro tull sound than even they could muster themselves. great guitar work by george kooymans also. and speaking of kooymans:he sings great vocals on 3 of the songs:best on being "this is the time of the year",it makes me wonder how many countless bands have followed that guitar-riff,for eons. . . i'd like say GE invented that, being this was from 1970!!!. another highlight is "peguins to the sky",with a rock-solid guitar solo-jam,don't care for the chorus, but that's only a minor complaint!. another criminally neglected classic from the earring that's worth a listen!!!.
GOLDEN EARRING BEST
HIS STYLE AND SOUND IS SO DIFFERENT FROM HIS OTHERS. I THINK THIS IS ONE OF THE BEST OR MAYBE THE BEST ALBUM OF THIS GROUP. I REALLY RECOMEND IT. THEY HAVE IN HERE A PROGRESIVE SOUND AND EACH OF THEM PLAYS LIKE IF THAT WILL BE THE LAST RECORDING OF THEIR LIVES. . . REALLY SPECTACULAR AND DEEP IN SOUND. YOU HAVE TO WATCH FOR UNDERSTAND WHAT I MEAN. NO WORDS FOR A GOOD DESCRIPTION, YOU HAVE TO LISTEN TO IT. WONDERFUL!!!.
