My Favorite Golden Earring Album... I've followed Golden Earring's career for a very long time and I really like this band. I'm a rock musician, fan and collector.
Nearly every rock fan remembers when he or she first heard "Radar Love", "Candy's Going Bad", "Twilight Zone" and even "When the Lady Smiles". However, Golden Earring has a very long discography that includes some records that didn't really get the attention they deserved. "Grab It For A Second" is one of those albums.
The whole album seems to flow naturally and has that characteristic Golden Earring sound from the 70's. The main thing I wanted to say about this album was that it rocks and it's really easy to listen to.
My feeling is this album suffered from lack of record company promotion and maybe some other similar ills. I can remember when this album came out, and there were several good albums by many other good bands that didn't do too well. So, I believe it to be a symptom of what was happening at the time in radio, etc.
In any case, the song "Grab It For A Second" is my favorite, and it is typically competent, emotional, hook-y hard rock for Golden Earring.
In my opinion, this band and their music never received their due recognition.
Sure, I love "Moontan", but I think "Grab It For A Second" has to be my favorite Golden Earring album, followed by "Switch".
.
AWESOME!!!!
This album followed the steam they created with the double LIVE of 1977. . . It single handedly captures the definitive GE sound better than anything short of 1973's MOONTAN. . . NO PROMISES NO DEBTS and PRISONER OF THE NIGHT follow the trend closely. . . Pushing the solid basic rock drive (minus the horns that made their appearance on some later albums)that was their live trademark sound.
These would be the efforts that any new GE fan would want to goive listen to first.
Earring's Best
I saw them on the tour for this album and the songs were even better live! If you like Golden Earring, buy this one--you won't be disappointed!. This album simply rocks! The songs are great, the playing is great, and it should have been a bigger hit than it was.
one of their best
E. This CD has been out of print for so long that I had to "remaster" my LP version to put onto CD! Quite possibly my favorite from G. Every song is a winner. The running order on the remastered CD is different that the original US release LP/CD. The original 'side 1' is a greatest hits side.
1. Movin Down Life
2. Against The Grain
3. Grab It For A Second
4. Cell 29
Those 4 songs are worth the price of admission alone. Great guitars, melodies and hooks. What more can a fan ask for?.
Grrreeeeat!
A lot of great guitar work that never grows stale or boring, and every song is strong and complimentary to the other which is this album's strength. Yep, I agree with everybody here, this is a great album! From beginning to end, a great slice of late 70's rock. I think it's one of their best! Even if you're barely familiar with them, you wouldn't hurt yourself to start here.
