Most underrated album
In fact, I'd put it on my top 5 Earring albums list. It was a dissapointment for the band, and is ignored by some fans, but The Hole is a much better album than it gets credit for. Anybody who likes 80's music will find something to like here. The ballad "Quiet Eyes" is the highlight of the album, and one of the band's better known songs. "Have A Heart" is definetely one of GE's most underrated, unknown songs, as is the excellent "A Shout In The Dark". The album does have some production problems, but overall it's an album that everyone who enjoys 80's music should check out. VERY underated.

Great 80's album
It has some problems with the mixing and production, but it still sounds good to me since I like 80's rock. The Hole is a great album for fans of 80's music. "Quiet Eyes" is the gem here. Wow, what a great song. "Why Do I" is a great song as well, but Barry's singing needs to be louder (the producer used the wrong vocal tapes, and Barry had to yell at him over the phone). The worst song here is probably "Love In Motion". Not bad at all, but the horns really bog down the song and tend to blast in your ear when you're not expecting them to. "They Dance" has a fast-paced shuffling beat with a slight Bangles feel to it. Jump And Run is a great song, I espescially love the chorus. Great 80's album, all in all, and severly underrated. But then again, so is their follow up album, Keeper Of The Flame. .

Great 80's album
I don't think I could ever choose GE's BEST 80's album, but The Hole is a pretty good contender. Dutch band Golden Earring's The Hole, released in 1986 and is the last of their albums released to the US public. It's by no by means the best music you've ever heard, or anything award-winning, and it might not have made much of an appearance of the US charts (if any), but it's very enjoyable for anyone who is into 80's rock. the highlight of the album is also one of their best, the power ballad "Quiet Eyes". Song like "A Shout In The Dark" and "Have A Heart" are very underrated.

I highly recommend you check out their 1984 album, NEWS, as it contains GE'S second greatest song (after "Twilight Zone"), the excellent "When The Lady Smiles". It's worth the price just for that song, and it's not avialble on their well-known compliation album, The Continuing Story Of Rader Love. I also recommend Last Blast Of The Century, Something Heavy Going Down (for their Cut/NEWS-era songs performed live) Bloody Buccaneers, and of course, Moontan.

Ok golden Earring,not great.
Not enough meat here but a couple of nice potatoes,if you get my drift. Golden Earring being one of my top 5 bands,I hate to rate this low. The songs do not venture in to the flowing unique
GE territory that I am used to. Loving Cesars drumming I also hate to say, that here it almost sound like he is only using one arm. But hey, I still like to throw this one on every so often ,
just for a change.

Good Album
This is easy to do when you have most of this great band's stuff. I have overlooked this album for quite some time. I listened to it this morning and was pleasantly surprised, it was much better than I remembered. While probably for hardcore Earring fans only, it is a godd album that drives all the way through. Jane Jane and Quiet Eyes are two notables. Glad I played it again, re-discoveries are always nice.
