A mordern Goldfrapp If you like Supernature, you may like this one more, or like it less than the original, but for shure this is not the kind of music Goldfrapp issued in the previous cds -A lot more electronic and dance music. This cd contains 12 pieces of music that have been remixed : 11 from the cd Supernature and one from Black Cherry. Personnaly, I prefer the first album (Felt Mountain) and the last one (2008 : 7th tree) which contain beautifull and profoundly original compositions, including relaxing ones.
It's Not the Voice
The lyrics consist entirely of "oh baby", "you are my man", and "let's hump". It's not the voice, she has the pipes of Kate Bush -- it's the songs. It's like the very worst of Marilyn Monroe. That kind of saccharin baby talk that is for me at least, completely unsexy. The music is techno-pop and tends to ramble thematically too. Although technically proficient, together the whole effect is heavy handed and tasteless. That said, maybe I picked a bad one. Every band has one. She's very pretty, so perhaps I need to see the video. Maybe that's the trick. But if you want to start on Goldfrapp, I would suggest picking a different one than this.
Great tunes!
Their album We Are Glitter is an interesting experiment: official, band-sanctioned remixes of songs from previous CDs. Goldfrapp are an exciting band whose single 'Ooh La La' (from Supernatural) is getting airplay on quite a few TV shows. The remixed 'Ride a White Horse,' 'Number 1' and 'Strict Machine' are the highlights of this release; they are essential for aficionados of electronic dance music. Benny Benassi's 'Ooh La La' remix more well-intentioned than successful, but otherwise the additional tracks are enjoyable and worth owning.
Extraordinary.
"Supernature" was spectacular; "We Are Glitter" is a diffrent breed: it is overly-spectacular. This was certainly a surprising album. Oh, rather. The album has its faults, as one should expect from a remix-CD, but the others are incomparable and seem to surpass the originals in many respects. 'Satin Chic' (#1) is wonderful; a great intro to the album. 'Lovely 2 C U' is energy put into audio waves. 'You Never Know' is dreamy, but manages to be at one with the other tracks. The remixes to 'Number 1' and 'Ride a White Horse' are electronic bliss like their originals (but more upbeat). 'Strict Machine' is an auditory jewel - perhaps the absolute highlight of the CD: reason enough to buy the album. Already awaiting Goldfrapps next CD and hopeful of another remix to the likes of this one.
Simply brilliant! Remixes that give the originals a run for their money
If you've already Goldfrapp already, then buying this CD is a no brainer. This release grabs some of Goldfrapp's songs (with heavy emphasis on the "Supernatural") and manages to do the seemingly impossible: songs that actually improve on most of the originals by giving them an extra kick and depth instead of most of the by the numbers bells and whistles that give most remixes a bad name. For those who don't, it's hard to explain as it qualifies as electronica, disco, glam rock and is lush/dream-like at the same time. One of the songs from "Supernatural" has been heavily used in other mediums, such as the promos. those for the last season of the TV show "Nip/Tuck. "
I could not believe the quality of the remixes as I am generally not a fan of them as songs tend to get diluted and lose some of their original appeal with a certain generci treatment. All the remixers in this release(which were picked by Goldfrapp) are at the top of their game and have created a world in which you want to shake it until you can't anymore.
I only discovered Goldfrapp a couple of years ago, and while I liked them intially, it was not until this release that I could not get them out of my mind or CD player. I give this an unqualified 5-stars, esp. for Goldfrapp fans. Those who've never heard of them may want to give this a shot, esp. if tired of buying music that is ok but has no urgency or sharp edges.
