If it falls in the woods and no one hears it, that's OK.
Yeah, Goldfrapp generally rocks, but not on this CD. I am sorry to say that I simply did not undersatnd the concept or direction of this album in the least. I've read the reviews of others and I came to enjoy Goldfrapp's work through similiar interests, but they completely lost me on this one. .

Sun-drenched
But where Felt Mountain explored twilight soundscapes, Seventh Tree basks in a sunny meadow. Certainly a departure from Supernature, Goldfrapp's latest album is nevertheless reminiscent of Felt Mountain, their debut. The music is for the most part happy and uplifting, with touches of folk and unobtrusive synths. There's some heartbreak too, as in the gorgeous first single A&E and the haunting and sensual Road to Somewhere. If you're a fan of chill-out music or a Goldfrapp fan, this is a must have.

Burlesque disguised as Children's Theatre
I had been meaning to pick it up since it was first released last year, but put it off until today. I've just finished listening to this album all the way through.

Wow. "Gorgeous" is the first word to come to mind. The sometimes silly, sometimes biting lyrics are masked under layers of gentle synth and acoustic guitar. This is (imo) the greatest album of this band's career to date. Some songs ('Happiness', 'Caravan Girl') are joyous and bouncy, while others ('Eat Yourself', 'Clowns') are more melancholy and tender.

If you are a fan of the ever-changing sound of Alison Goldfrapp and her bandmates. . . get this! It is NOT like the last two records but if you are an adventurous music enthusiast get it anyway.

Goldfrapp flies under radar
Somehow, Goldfrapp flies under the radar of popular music, not quite getting the attention it deserves. I discovered Goldfrapp on "London Live," an excellent concert show on the late MOJO network. I hope other people discover this talented duo and give them a listen. This album continues their excellent production, but I would recommend starting with Supernature or Black Cherry. .

The sound of Happiness!

I had been thinking about buying a Goldfrapp album for years, but never took the leap. There are simply not enough words in the English language to describe how good this album is. I came to them by way of Thievery Corp, Massive Attack, Potishead and Morcheeba, to name a few, but the heavy electronic sounds of albums 2 and 3 made me hesitate. I received notification about their Radio City show and decided to check their website out and was mesmerized by the loop that plays on the site. Clicked over to amazon and immediately downloaded this album. It has not stopped playing since! My classic rock husband is even a fan now.

You should not die without hearing this. It's summery and ethereal and just Happy! Each song is a work of art and I don't think there is a dud on it. Do yourself a favor and experience this album. Alison has a lovely voice.

Rather than Thievery et al, I would relate this album more towards a delightful mix of Kate Bush, Tori Amos, Pink Floyd and the Beatles with a tiny touch of the good aspects of Enya mixed in and the crescendo 'pop' song writing of Stretch Princess, although I would say it really is it's own thing and no copy of anyone else. I really find the songs emotional, lush and delightful.

I'm sorry that some people were disappointed with the album because of expectations of more dance music, but that is no reason to dislike this album for it's own strengths. Besides, they are kind enough to give us remixes of the songs to dance to.
