Amazing
I really can't describe how amazing it is. This is one of the best rock albums that I have ever heard.

You're listening to the Matthew Good Band...Brought to you by the federal government!
Ah, Beautiful Midnight by the Matthew Good Band. . not a day went by in 1999 when you didn't hear at least one of this album's singles playing on Canadian radio or Much Music. There's a good reason for that by the way. . . Canadian Content regulations! By law, Canadian radio stations must play 35% Canadian music, or else risk getting a huge fine from the government or even losing their broadcasting liscence. The Matthew Good Band is one of those bands that are played constantly on the radio not for talent, but to simply meet the CANCON regulations and allow the radio station to stay out of trouble with the federal government. Matthew Good belongs in the same category as other such legendary cancon filler artists like Big Wreck, Big Sugar, Our Lady Peace, Danko Jones, Jet Set Sattelite, etc. who owe their entire careers to the federal government. And before you give me your "They get played 30 times a day because they're talented, not because of CANCON regulations" argument, consider the fact that all these bands are mega stars in Canada but nobody outside this country has heard of them. Coincidence? I DON'T THINK SO!!! In other countries where no CANCON regulations exist, talentless bands like these would remain exactly where they belong. . . playing in garages and bars with about 20 people in them. All those CANCON filler bands are awful and nobody would like them if they weren't brainwashed by CANCON.

The Best MGB has to offer
Beautiful Midnight is the final chapter of an artist growing beyond the constraints of the 5 piece band unit. Intelligent yet subtle meditation on popular culture masquerading as a conventional radio-pop album. Although 'The Audio of Being' is the official curtain call of MGB, the writing was on the wall with the release of Beautiful Midnight.
The album produced a pair of well aired hit singles in 'Hello Time Bomb' and 'Load me up' in native Canada. (Likely due to Canadian content regulations on the airwaves. )
'I Miss New Wave', 'Giant', and 'Jenni's Song' all deserve notable mention, while two songs in particular - 'The Future is X rated' and 'Running for home' rise above the rest.
.

From a Matt Good fan...
I just want to give you all one piece of advice: buy the Canadian copy of this album. I'm not going to waste my time reviewing the album's content. This claims to be the explicit version, yet the non-offensive words "machine gun" and "kill" have been censored. Confused? Also included are a couple of songs that weren't even released on this album, but other albums.

Matthew Is Good
One of my favourite Canadian albums. This album is amazing and supremely overlooked. The songwriting is amazing on this and the lyrics seem very thoughtful. They are very dark in my opinion and could be offensive to some including myself almost at parts. Some I think are very good though. But it's the music that mainly matters to me and it's more than just good. This is a real album with real genuine songs and not some lame radio cash ins. Give it a listen if you like quality music. By the way, the version this site shows isn't the real Beautiful Midnight. There are a few songs on it that are actually on their previous album Underdogs. Make sure you get the right one.

The actual tracklisting is as follows:

1. Giant
2. Hello Time Bomb
3. Strange Days
4. I Miss New Wave
5. Load Me Up
6. Failing The Rorschach Test
7. Suburbia
8. Lets' Get It On
9. Jenni's Song
10. Going All The Way
11. A Boy And His Machine Gun
12. The Future Is X-Rated
13. Born To Kill
14. Running For Home.
