Great collection of songs
You can go wrong !. This cd contains all you need from the band, this is the perfect "greatest hits" and if you like good old rock from the seventies, you'll enjoy this one a lot.

Grank Funk goodness
You will be amazed how many songs you recognize from this great band when you listen to this Capitol Collectors Series CD. Thank goodness for this wonderful, American rock band. It's actually a perfect greatest hits collection. Everything you've ever wanted from Grand Funk Railroad can be found here. All the radio hits, plus a few lesser known tunes. The entire running time of the disc clocks in to something like 75 minutes. You also get the long version of "Closer to Home/I'm Your Captain". It's music that will never grow old and will instantly take you back to the 70's. The rock and roll actually rocks, and sounds like good old fashioned dirty, raw blues rock. .

GRAND FUNKIN' RAILROAD
Love this album and you should too if you're a fan of theirs. Probally my favorite band to see live, just like their albums, raw pure kickin a** rock and roll. All these tracks jam from Time Machine all the way to Bad Time, and the in-betweens. Footstompin' Music, love it, love it. Closer To Home, never get sick of the captain, never will. Rock and Roll Soul, for sure. And ofcourse We're An American Band (Damn Straight). Perfect party album or weekend BBQ music indeed. I would also recommend getting their live albums as well as their studio albums. Picture perfect album I must say, get FUNKY.

GRANDEST FUNK
The Capitol collection touches on all the right bases, chronologically encapsulating milestones from the bloozey HEARTBREAKER (head honcho Mark Farner says it's the first thing he ever wrote) to their last biggie, the incandescent singalong BAD TIME. GRAND FUNK RAILROAD-CAPITOL COLLECTORS SERIES: For fans interested in a dynamic overview of Mark, Don & Mel, giving equal time to both their "underground" early classics and their subsequent Top 40 run of pop rock smashes, listen no further. In between, there's the beautifully rendered CLOSER TO HOME/I'M YOUR CAPTAIN, the slam-jam of SHININ' ON, and autobiographical party-boy anthem WE'RE AN AMERICAN BAND. Tastefully selected cover tunes, always a GF staple, include Eric Burdon's INSIDE LOOKING OUT, the Stones' GIMME SHELTER, RNB nugget SOME KIND OF WONDERFUL, and their mega-watt reconstruction of LOCOMOTION. Critics always hated the Funk, and fans always didn't, and though I am both, I certainly know real ROCK & ROLL SOUL when I hear it! RATING: FIVE THUMPS ON A BARE CHEST

Well Come On Over Baby And Step Into My Time Machine!
When their # 1 hit single, We're An American Band, came out that all changed. I have to admit that I didn't keep up with Grand Funk Railroad's career very much until late 1973. The impact that song (And the self titled LP) had on me had me purchasing their previous material and it was then that I realized I had made a mistake by not keeping up with them from the start. Time Machine, Closer To Home / I'm Your Captain, Footstompin' Music, Feelin'Alright, and, Gimme Shelter, are just five songs from their early years that are on this disc. I think Grand Funk's version of, Gimme Shelter, is as good or maybe even better then The Rolling Stone's version. All six of those tunes I listed above are on this Collecters Series disc along with several songs from their latter years and a few of them are, Walk Like A Man, The Loco-Motion, Some Kind Of Wonderful, and, Bad Time. This is a good compilation for the casual fan of Grand Funk. There are fifteen tracks on this compilation and every song on this CD ROCKS.
Each to their own opinion but even today I catch myself thinking back over Grand Funks career from time to time and as good as they were from start to finish I still believe their best songs started with, We're An American Band, in 1973. I consider Grand Funk as one of Michigan's finest bands over the years and they sure knew how to put a smile on my face. I certainly agree with one of the other reviewers when he said "Grand Fun" would have been another good name for this band. Thanks Mark, Don, Mel and Craig for the music.
