it's time, it's time, it's grand funk time
Of course, there's a noticable blues influence as well, and that's almost impossible to ignore because ALL hard rock bands back then were influenced by the blues. What I like about Grand Funk's debut is that it just ROCKS hard and heavy right from the beginning, while containing quite a lot of memorable vocal melodies that you can party and dance to.

"Into the Sun" has one of the best intros EVER. There's a few moments of lazy songwriting such as the chorus to "Heartbreaker", but other than that, I like the album and love this kind of music. It's not the best Grand Funk Railroad album because their songwriting would manage to improve when the band started finding their own style later on, but for a beginning attempt, it's quite a good one. .

Grand Funk/On Time
Yes, it was pretty simple stuff, but the times were certainly simpler too. While not my favorite Grand Funk album this is certainly an enjoyable album. If like me you had this way back when (and I don't know what happened to it as I still have the next three albums, in good shape) I'm sure like me you'll enjoy the heck out of hearing it again. Instantly recognizable after how many decades? Solid straightforward Rock!.

grand funk railroad on time
Got to have this cd if you are a big fan of Grand Funk, like I am. I listened to this music growing up and I still love it. Brings back lots of memories for me. .

Better than Zeppelin
This especially carried through the release of their second album (The RED album)which I consider their best. Although never given their props, GFR in the beginning was better than Led Zeppelin. They were a great band until they turned to the commercial side of things turning out 45 style singles. And today, as it's been over the last 20 years, the only thing you ever hear on the radio is "Loco-motion" and "We're An American Band". Great songs, but not the original sound. This album is as raw as it gets and can truly be called "Hard Rock". WHY ISN'T THIS BAND IN THE ROCK 'N ROLL HALL OF FAME, but the O'Jays are?.

Strong Debut!

But, of course, the bluesy rock album has been done a thousand times, so it's not just those elements that make it successful. Just a great, bluesy, guitar driven rock n' roll album, and it makes for an impressive debut from Grand Funk Railroad. Grand Funk also include some funk (obviously), folk, and progressive elements in their music, and it makes for a wonderful mix.
