so funky and addicting Well THAT all changes with this album-
E Pluribus Funk is totally funky. What I think is great about E Pluribus Funk is how, the band is called Grand FUNK Railroad, right? You'd expect their music to be funky most of the time, but in my experience, the band has mostly been focused around hard rock with a little bit of soul thrown in occasionally. The funk approach was focused more on here compared to most Grand Funk albums, and guess what? The songs are really really good too. "Share the Land" is a great song, and I swear it sounds exactly like an old song by a band called the Blues Image.
It's not all about funkiness though- the closing song called "Loneliness" just TEARS through my emotional state with those soaring vocals and extremely honest lyrics. When I say extreme, I really mean it. This song floors me. Some call it an epic closer, but to me, it's just a really powerful song as far as honest feelings are concerned. I've been singing this song for the last three hours to myself, especially that chorus when the song turns loud. The vocals during this part of the song in particular just amaze me. Absolutely great song. It's the kind of songs that makes you want to take a walk through fields and just appreciate everything this planet has to offer.
But the rest of the album just rips through with one funky number after another, melodic songwriting, and a pretty underrated album these days. I guess like Steppenwolf, we're supposed to forget about Grand Funk Railroad *just* because it's been many years since this album came out, or because these guys didn't do anything groundbreaking or influential? Nonsense. Pick up E Pluribus Funk today.
If you love rock n' roll you'll love this
I have always been a fan, but really didn't realize what I was missing until I bought these older albums (CD's). I think Grand Funk Railroad is one of the most neglected bands of their era. These guys ROCK!.
GRrrreat
I just love this cd. Grand Funk just exhibits pure energy from the 70's. A must have for any Grand Funk fan.
Better than the LP.... but....
And sure enough it is. As I contemplated burning my old LP to a CDR, I figured what the heck, maybe it's in print as a CD. Now I have all of the original cuts in stereo. Plus I have some new tracks. The original tracks were worth buying the CD for (I am a long time GFR fan), but as far as the extra cuts go, well, I'm not enough of a fan to be excited about them. If anything, the inclusion of these cuts here is a good explanation of why they weren't released earlier. Ok, yes, they are 'other versions', and a live cut. . . but for the most part they do not hold my interest with their simple lyrics and less-than-complete flow.
A Masterpiece of the best American Rock Music!
If you're a Rock drummer or go crazy for drums playing, give a try to this album! . This album from Grand Funk Railroad, is simply, pure, tough, raw 70s ROCK MUSIC AT ITS BEST!
Mark Farner sings like a furious soldier, while Don Brewer and Mel Schacher do their own with the bass guitar and the drums.
