Gotta love the b'ys of GBS You just can't help but sing along and dance and move to their music (tough in the car, but necessity is the mother of invention!). I fell in love with their infectious, wonderfully honest style when they played with the Chieftains at Wolftrap Farm Park in Northen Virginia. Can't wait till they get back to the the D. C. area this fall. Long live GBS! Great album, lots of variety in the tunes. I can listen to this one for hours.
Incredible! As always.
Boston and St. I was hardly disappointed with the quality of these songs! I have only recently become an enormous fan of Great Big Sea, but that doesn't keep me from absolutely adoring this album. John's, a special favorite, grabs your heart and doesn't let it go until the final guitar chord. . I play that one over and over. . and the first three are equally as wonderful. This is my first album, but I've heard Rant and Roar, too, and that one's just as good. You can't compare with this group. . they're truly talented musicians.
Good, but definitely NOT their best one
What a great album, and so infectiously rollicking! This one is good, but MUCH slower and somewhat darker. I bought GBS "Rant and Roar" and immediately became a rabid fan. Consequence Free is the GBS I am used to, but the rest is going to take a while to grow on me. I was kind of disappointed that I didn't order "Up" instead. Oh well. It's still Great Big Sea.
Disappointing
Their previous albums (I have all of them: Canadian & US) were all 5 star efforts. GBS is too talented for this. They were witty, powerful, beautiful - simply rare gems. I go to see them whenever they perform nearby. But in Turn I found neither wit, power nor beauty just disconnected mediocre efforts with the notable exception of Trois Navires De Bie (that alone mitigated my feeling ripped off. ) This was no Great Big Sea, there was nothing great about this. Bring the old GBS back, please!.
A CD to holler along with!
Wow. . it was definitely worth the money to buy this import. My very picky girlfriend even loves this album. Their sound is. . . is. . . well, imagine a performer like Sarah McLachlan then imagine the complete opposite. This is an ebullient, joyous collection of great songs, sung in a tight, yet rambunctious free-for-all. Like Stan Rogers, you can almost smell the ocean when you listen. As the picky girlfriend says: "It's a manly album sung by manly men. Now play it again. ".
