Even better then the last album It excels most celtic music out there in a pop sort of genre. this is a great upbeat band and this cd is no different.
If you ever have a chance to see GBS in concert - GO! .
Nowhere near the quality of previous albums.
This excitement lasted until I actually received the album as a birthday gift and got to hear what was on it. With Road Rage being my favorite album so far, I was excited when I heard that Great Big Sea had made another live album. Great Big Sea is my favorite band and it pains me to say this, but this is the worst album they have released to date and a sad attempt at a "live" album. Sean and Alan sound out of breath through half the album and the timing seems to be way off through out.
Fabulous!
I was introduced by a friend who had a few of their songs on CD and was hooked. Don't deprive yourself of the pleasure of getting to know "Great Big Sea". I originally thought they were an Irish band because their traditional songs have the same rollicking, sing-along sound of your favorite Irish pub bands. Once you get used to the idea of them being from Newfoundland, tho, you realize they couldn't possibly be from anywhere else. They sing of the sea, of fishing boats, of dead horses and drunken, scolding wives. And you are soon singing along with them and wishing you could go to "The tropical Island of Newfoundland") to hang out with them. Or better yet, to see them live on tour. This combination CD and DVD is the next best thing to a live performance. I promise you: you'll be hooked, too.
Awesome!!!
I worked and lived in Toronto for a couple years and one night I was flipping channels and came across GBS performing live on a CBC broadcast. These guys are incredible! They are the best kept secret that Canada has ever had (except for maybe Hockey Night In Canada and Poutine). As a die hard channel surfer I wanted to switch channels after every song but couldn't because every song was fenominal. I immediately went out and bought Road Rage and I was hooked. This is one of those rare bands that are good in the studio but really shine in front of a crowd. I love every live versions of their songs so this CD is great. If you are a fan and live where GBS doesn't play, it would be well worth the road trip to the Molson Amphitheatre in Toronto or even better, a stage in St. Johns, N. F. to see these guys at their best.
If you only have one GBS album, this should be it!
It includes 4 bonus videos, including Lukey - which was done w/ the Chieftains. The best part about this live album is the Bonus DVD that comes with it. It was that video on YouTube that got me started loving Great Big Sea, and it's on this DVD. Beyond that, it's a fantastic cross-section of their best songs, along with some that aren't as well known. These guys are so much fun to watch and listen to; and this album/DVD is a great way to do it.
