Always Bitten, Never Shy! Even though ". In the glory days of 80's heavy metal and hard rock, Great White had always been one of the most unappreciated bands in rock history, second only to Quiet Riot. . . Twice Shy" became their signature album (with no small help of the title track) Great White would never reach the top brass status to say Poison or Bon Jovi. But, they made great music none the less. First off, I'm not crazy about compliation CD's, since I own every album anyway. But I always get suckered in when previous unrelease tracks are attached. Kiss did the same thing with "Smashes, Thrashes & Hits. " Again a million seller. But, this album isn't as impressive. To my surprise, only a few of their staple songs are attached, but the real reason I purchased it was for the song, "Slow Ride. " An original song, not a Foghat remake. In the day, I purchased the cassette single of "Once Bitten. . . " and this song along with "Wasted Rock Ranger" was included. For years, I've always wanted it on CD. "Wasted" was included on a limited edition of "Psycho City. " So, for better or worse, I purchased "Gallery. " It does have songs on it that I love, "Can't Shake It," "Desert Moon," and "Baby's On Fire. " Never released as singles, but great tunes. If you don't have a Great White CD, there are better compilations out there. But, if your a fanatic like me. Then purchase it to your heart's content. MY, MY, MY!!!.
Great, and different, hits compilation
They can rock, roll and play the blues and ballads with the best of them. Great White is a great band. This CD is a nice, and different, hits compilation. Slow Ride is an awesome song and I don't know why it hasn't been released on other "hits" CDs.
I do agree that the sound of this CD is not perfect but the version I recieved isn't what I would consider poor. .
Great Collection - Sound Quality is poor
The rest of the songs represent the bands hard rock legacy. True GW fans won't miss the overdone 'Once bitten twice shy'. The previously unreleased 'Slow Ride' definitely belongs with these other classics (it is NOT a remake). The only problem with the CD is the audio quality. It sounds like they recorded the songs off of non-master tapes. The reduced dynamic range does not do the band justice. The British release may have better quality. On a humorous note, the liner notes falsely report that "Tony Montana (bass) died in 1992. " Tony is alive and well.
