Rock fans got cheated by the suits....Here lies a great album, killed and buried by a record company. . . .
One night in 2001 after a Great White show, I found myself talking to Jack Russell and he asked me what my favorite GW album was and I told him it was this one. He seemed suprised and at the same time gratified. Talking to him solved the mystery of why this album didn't get the chance it deserved to make a name for itself as one of the classic rock albums of the era. He also told me that the guys in the band were probably more proud of this album than possibly any other and that they had very high hopes (justified) for this album. He then explained that some idiots (my word, not his) at Capitol Records had decided that grunge was in and that classic hard rock was out. It was already decided by the time the album was completed to not support "Psycho City" and to dump Great White. In the process a really fine rock album was swept under the rug of music history. I will never forget the disappointment in his voice.
What makes this story all the more tragic is the strength of this record. This truly amazing record has ten songs, every one of which is strong. I am sitting here at my computer almost sixteen years later and I can remember every one of these songs like I just heard them. This album sizles with energy from start to finish.
I see alot of good reviews on Amazon for their new album "Back To The Rhythm" and 1999's "Can't Get There From Here", justifiably so since they are good albums, but if you want one that's even better find a copy of this and buy it. .
Excellent
But when I got this one it just blew me away. THe first 2 songs I heard from Great White were Rock Me, and Once Bitten Twice Shy and i thought they were great. now i think so much different of them. I'd say the best song on here is Old Rose Motel. THe singer is just awesome, great voice, original, guitar is really good, and it fits all in together. I think Jack Russel has the best voice of all time. Absouletly no doubt about it!!! Buy this you won't regret it!!!!.
A REAL RARITY
No weak sisters no filler. What's rare is that every song is a gem. At 61 minutes of great music, you really get your moneys worth.
This was probably the most unheralded, underated, unappreciated rock album in history. From fast hard hitting "Psycho City" to slow bluesey plodding "Old Rose Motel" to the bigger than life "Big Goodbye" the album is solid.
Great White has several great albums but none are better than Psycho City. And to think, this album only made #107 on Billboard album chart. However it hit #1 on Daumco's Chart.
If you get the chance, check it out, this album is for real.
Great White's finest album
to date definitly Great White's best album! vocals are top notch and the rest of the band just flows. . buy it and you'll see!.
Excellant CD
Although not one of the band's biggest selling ablums, the strong vocals and powerful guitar make this album one of the band's best. Even after ten years this CD is still awesome to listen to. And until now, Wasted Rock Ranger was one of the bands most sought after songs unavailable on CD except on extremely rare and high priced imports. If you only 'like' Great White, this CD is a must. It won't disappoint you.
