The best of Al Green
Al Green has such amazing control of the range and dynamics of his voice, and is well complemented by Willie Mitchell's arrangements. This is a fantastic album without a single weak track. Admittedly the lyrics are fairly straightforward tales of love and heartache, but Al Green draws the emotion out of every word in his idiosyncratic style. If you are interested in Al Green, don't waste your time with best-of compilations; just go straight to this album, "Call me", and then "Let's stay together".

Some reviewers have commented negatively about the remastering on this reissue. I haven't heard earlier reissues, but I agree the highs are sometimes a little muffled and the stereo mix seems slightly clumsy in places. There is room for improvement, but no serious problems.

Amazon needs to put original release dates
Come on guys!!!! . I really wish Amazon would include original release date info instead of just providing issue reprint dates.

More romantic Soul from one of the genre's masters.
The hit singles "Love and Happinerss", "Oh, Pretty Woman" and the title track helped make this one of Al Green's strongest sellers and a highlight of early-'70s Soul. This was (almost) as good an album as "Call Me" and "Let's Stay Together". The only song on this CD which can be labeled a near-miss is "For The Good Times" as it just doesn't hold up in comparison to the album's other tracks.

Simply Beautiful....
This is a collection that you play all the way through. I just have to say that I've always been a fan of Al, but this is by far my favorite album. Every song is a hit. It's just pure genious. This should be a greatest hits album in itself. If I had to choose one song that stood out above the rest it would be "Simply Beautiful" which in my humble opinion is Al at his best. His voice is so smooth and full of passion, it brings tears to my eyes. They definitely don't make music like this anymore. If you're a real Al fan and you don't already have this album, you need it now!!!.

SOUTHERN SOUL MINISTRY!!!!!!!
EVERYTHING ON THIS RECORD IS OFF THE CHARTS !!!!!LOVE IT, AL GREEN BACK IN THE DAY WAS THE MAN!A CLASSIC. . . . . . . . . . . . TIMELESS.
