awesome!!
They all love it!!
It's beautiful, relaxing and just otherworldly. Ive already bought one for my self and 2 others for family and friends.
I love it & I'm not even religious!.
Still my favorite
I found other groups that had recorded Gregorian chants, but they were never quite the same. I lost my original copy of this a few years ago, and have listened to different Gregorian chants looking for something similar. When it occurred to me that I could probably find a used copy, I wasted no time. And just as I remembered, this CD is beautiful. I'm so glad I ordered it!.
A gift from God!
The only comparable match I can think of to this is the actual Latin Tridentine Mass, where I have heard other Gregorian chants, where the whole mass is very spiritual. This was no fluke of marketing, advertising, or anything else! God had made this a top of the pop music charts hit, and unlike ALL the other entries on those same hit music lists before or since, this one inspires, calms, and heals the soul! Singing along with this CD initiates a spiritual event unlike any in the modern rites (post Vatican 2) of the Catholic Church. As is sometimes stated in engineering endeavors, "God is in the details"! And I say "Amen!" to that!.
A good intro, but Chant varies more than this credits it
But so be it. Hmmm, that title leaves a little to be desired in terms of grammar.
I first sang plain chant when I was in 4th grade, millenia ago it would seem. I've always loved it. It provides a sense of solace that much music does not. Indeed, at the Cistercian Monestary I visit when times permit, they do a modified chant. I can even take that at 3:30 am!
But chant varies more than this CD demonstrates. I have a CD by Sequentiae, for example, which may consist of later chant--if I were to speculate, that's what I would suggest it is, but I may be wrong.
But for those unfamiliar with chant, especially reading it, the scale, etc. , this is a good start. Just don't think chant is limited to the drone of the music on this CD.
Frankly, the other CDs in this series don't offer the variety available in plainchant either. The voices of the monks are great, but they could offer more examples of chant without transcending chant tradition.
Again, if you're completely unfamiliar with chant, this CD is good. But don't limit yourself as much as the monks did on this series. .
Not your usual Kyrie
The singing is well done. CHANT arrived in good condition ahead of the promised delivery date and for a bargain price. However, I never recognized one selection of the ultra long list of chants that are a radical departure from Kyrie Eleison and Magnificat anima mea. I played it while in bed and drifted off to sleep even after being kinda disappointed in the selections. This is not saying YOU won't be transfixed and inspired by the rhythm, melodies, and selections chosen by the totally-dedicated monks. .
