Vince Fans, Rejoice! The two-CD set consists of a live set from 1974 showing Vince at his best. This is one of the best Guaraldi albums yet. According to the liner notes, these tracks were found in Vince's desk drawer by his son, David. The sound is crystal clear; Vince fans will be drooling!!
Here are some notes I've culled from the Vince Guaraldi forums his web site (vinceguaraldi-dot-com):
- The track 'Now's the Time' is a Charlie Parker tune
- 'One, Two, Three' was written by Borisoff, Madara, and White and was popularized by Len Barry ("it's so easy, like taking candy from a baby")
-'Then Came You' is a great tune, but likely not the one my the Spinners.
-'I could write a book' doesn't sound like the Rodgers and Hart tune, but rather 'Old Folks' (covered by Miles Davis)
-"Little Birdie" is actually 'Cops and Robbers' (by Vince), a different version of which was on the "Lost Cues, Vol. 2" CD.
My only complaint is that the liner notes were a little short. Other than that, great CD packaging design and a superb recording!
