Classic Woody for kids of all ages Its so great. I was lucky enough to get a great recording of this album direct from vinyl from a friend. Woody Guthrie is definitely an icon of American music, and his kids songs are some of the warmest and best examples. Written and sung perfectly for the target audience. Some of my earliest and best memories are of my Mom singing "The car song", still makes me smile. Highly recomended. If you like this album check out Ruth Crawford Seegers book American Folk Songs for Children. Mike and Peggy Seeger recorded an CD of the songs from this book as well. As a Folk/Kids music junky I dearly love them both. .
Timeless Songs
Now we're sending them to our grandchildren. We sang these songs to our children. These songs are among the best things Woody Guthrie ever did. .
Soundtrack of my life
My infant daughter responded to this so strongly that this is the single most played CD in our household. This CD is incredible. We live in the city so in order for my baby to get a good night sleep, we play this CD on repeat mode all night. Keep in mind, we hear it through the monitor too and still. . . not sick of it. Woody Guthrie is a genius. The songs are simple but exciting. He's got a great sense of humor too. Brilliant in every way, give this CD a listen. My guess is that you and your children will love it, even if folk's not your thing. (Side note, I listen mostly to 70's punk, new wave and British garage bands so this is no folky writing. . . I was a skeptic).
Classic Songs for Children and Adults
" Apparently, she wanted to do some serious listening. As my two-year-old niece listened to "Wake Up" for the first time, her mouth opened wider and wider, and at the end of the song, she said, "MORE, MORE!" According to my sister, my niece had never had this response to any other music! When my sister started singing along with Woody G, my niece said, "No singing, Mommy. I hope she gets over that stage soon because it's hard to resist singing along with these songs!
The tunes are pleasant and catchy, the language is simple, and there's lots of repetition and humor. No wonder my niece loves this CD; she can tell it's directed towards her. But we adults love it too. .
Classic, sweet old-time nursery songs
We love the songs! they are easy to learn and easy to sing and they are just so darned cute! She's nearly seven now, and the cd got into little hands (hers and her younger siblings) and has been damaged. We received this for our oldest daughter at her first Christmas when she was not quite one year old. . . we're replacing it, and I think we'll be looking into getting the "Songs to Grow on for Mother and Child" as well now that they are getting older! I still wake up my daughter with "wake up, wake-up, wake-up, wake-up!"
Beautifully classic old time blue grass nursery songs. . . just like my grandma sang to me.
