its better than some may say
otherwise Hammerfall in general is better than most random unheard of power metal bands period (in my opinion)
but i suggest this to not be the first album to buy by them, get this as a collector's buy later on after getting Glory to the brave, Legacy of kings, Crimson thunder, and or Chapter V:unbent unbowed unbroken. because of the lineup change and production was different a bit, this album did not completely follow up Legacy of kings as stronger as some would had hoped it would, and over all i think this is just about their weakest album next to Threshold, yet that's just comparing to themself.
smile faces :-).
Fist pumpers in the night, UNITE!!!!
I don't know how much they tour Stateside, but they definitely don't seem to think Denver is worthy enough to conqueror with their awesome brand of fantasy-tinged melodic power rock. When I imagine what Hammerfall's live shows must be like, I see 100,000 fists pumping in the air, and possibly a dragon and some knights and stuff. But who knows. . . Maybe, someday. Anyway, on to 'Renegade'.
This album is a very solid piece of Swedish power metal with a sprinkle of 80's style butt rock, and a few dashes of contemporary melodic hard rock thrown in for good measure. Hammerfall have found a formula that works, and they use their full arsenal to give us a collection of rock solid tunes on 'Renegade'. From the slower ballads to the fast paced, fully charged shredders, this album is packed with all the goodies any power metal fan can appreciate. There is no better way to start an album than with a track like 'Templars of Steel'. The instrumental track, 'Raise the Hammer', is also top notch (easily one of my favorite songs here).
I would recommend this album to any power metal fan. It does a good job capturing the elements of classic power metal, while still remaining relevant and interesting in a contemporary sense.
.
Totally Triumphant!!!
A lot of folks can't understand these guys. I already have all the other albums by these Power-Metal Masters!!! This was the only one eluding me. . . just listen to the music!!! This is what happens when you have a group of guys that are making music they love and are still having fun doing so. Not for corporate tie ins or bigger album sales. They shout a big "F-YOU" to today's music industry in the fact that they are still playing what they want and not what some fat slob of a producer is telling them to. Stronget then steel. . . brighter than the sun. . . KEEP THE FIRE BURNING!!!! .
Power Metal at its Best!!
Most of the other modern so called "metal" bands are nothing but screaming [. Hammerfall is one of the best modern metal bands around today. . . ]. Hammerfall took the best parts of 80's metal and solidified it together with an updated sound. They have a lot of skill and talent. Their songs are powerful and heavy and yet actually have melody that you can follow. You can hear and understand all the words. But again, they are extremely powerful and heavy. They have a constant Middle Age theme running through all their albums which is what makes them unique. It creates a certain mood and flow that connects all the songs on an album.
Now about rating their albums. . . all 5 of their albums rock! But the last 4 are better than the first. Their first is good heavy metal, much better than most metal bands today, but the songs did not completely "click" and come together. However, that issue was completely gone by the second album! None of their next 4 albums are better than the other. They all are as good as heavy power metal with melodic vocals can get. On each album they further develop their style and introduce a few new things. But. . . and a very important but. . . each album still sounds like Hammerfall! They remain true to their sound. So here are the ratings:
3. 5 Glory to the Brave
5. 0 Legacy Of Kings
5. 0 Renegade
5. 0 Crimson Thunder
5. 0 Chapter V: Unbent, Unbowed, Unbroken
.
When Hammerfall delivers you know ....
Renegade is one of the best ,the guitars are tight but precised and just hard stuff! When you hear this album this is one of their signature albums ,again one of the best ,this album is true Hammerfall in it ,I strongly recommend !. This album gives you the impression that it was wrote in the `80 but its not ,the drums and the guitars are like you have never heard before .
