Fantastic live collection! Described as doing for voice what Hendrix does for guitar is no small accolade. There are alot of ways to approach Peter Hammill's body of work. This collection of 'live' solo performances is a great selection in itself, but what really shines(imo) are the liner notes by PH describing the nuances of performing each set,how guitar or piano enchances each piece. . . and how as an artist he "becomes" his creation, riding the wave of emotions and energy inherent in each. These liner notes are excellent for the beginner as well as seasoned PH fan. Very cool. Very nifty and secret bonus tracks But even in spite of some serious roughness in spots -- I mean more than one expects from Peter Hammill live -- the real surprise is the last song, which measures in at a whopping 26 minutes. If only all of the songs were as fascinating as "Traintime" and "The Future Now", then the album would be a 6-star record. Actually, it is four songs, though only one ("The FUture Now") is mentioned in the song list. Also included are "Afterwards", "Darkness" and "Central Hotel" -- encores with the tape player still running? Can't tell, but they're worth the silence in between songs. An absolutely must for Hammill fans A great selection os songs passionately performed by the master. Hammil solo with electric guitar and piano. Way better than Room temperature live.
