Music for an evening on the front porch
Songs for Clem reminds me of being in the country - and makes you want to sing along to every song. Like the other reviewer, Sarai, I too love this album and have loved Sarah Harmer's music since I stumbled across her "You Were Here" album (another of my all-time favorite CD's). The album is so rustic that you can even hear the crickets singing in the background on some tracks, as I believe that Sarah recorded this album at her home in the country outside Toronto. Even if you've never been a fan of these individual songs, I doubt you'll be able to resist humming along to Oh Bury Me Not or Blue Moon of Kentucky - I bet you'll even sing out loud! If you're lucky enough to catch Sarah in person, her live performances are equally as stellar. .

The Romance of John Deer Tractors
After I was thoroughly saturated by that release, I ventured to pick up everything else she ever did (I was a compulsive CD buyer at the time). Sarah Harmer has taken my breath away day after day ever since I first purchased You Were Here randomly at Borders a few years ago.
Beautiful tack piano and clanging guitars accent this piece, and give it a very earthy, very dustbowlish feel.
Songs for Clem surprised me and gave me a newfound appreciation for the classics to which Sarah lends her ultimate charm on the recording. If you've never sung "Black Coffee" while driving in San Francisco, or moaned along to "Tenessee Waltz" while cleaning the bathroom, you should try it. And you should buy this CD, it will change your life.
