The Best of George Harrison
All this is subjective, of course, but highlights include "Something," "Here Comes the Sun," "While My Guitar Gently Weeps," "My Sweet Lord, and "Give Me Love," so that's five winners, but there are eight other songs that are far inferior. I wish there had been more post-Beatles songs like "Dear One" because I personally love his spiritual songs. It should really be called "The Most Popular . . . " rather than "The Best . . . . ".

PREORDER 'LET IT ROLL' INSTEAD
But I think at that time George was taking a heavy beating (not deserved, BTW) for his "Dark Horse" and "Extra Texture" albums and wanted to make this more commercially palatable, apparently. Capitol-EMI did kind of give George's solo career a raw deal with this "best of" collection.
This album was nice because it did show neophytes that Harrison wrote some strong tunes with the Fabs, too, and wasn't just a preachy guy (his persona to a lot of misinformed people).
But now it is 2009 and FINALLY Capitol-EMI is putting out a career-spanning set called "Let It Roll: Songs By George Harrison" and an apparent sister set called "Let It Roll: The Best of George Harrison. "
I still am wondering why there are two titles, but they are both available right now at Amazon.
So -- don't waste your money on THIS album anymore. My advice: pre-order the new one right now! Besides, the album cover is wonderful (yeah, it's from his Beatles days, but it captures the impassioned musical spirit and "Inner Light" of the Dark Horse!).

Why so many Beatles songs?
There is no need to fill half the album with Beatles tracks; that's what Beatles Greatest Hits are for. The Beatles were an amazing band, no doubt about it, but this compilation is supposed to be the best of GEORGE. George had so many good album tracks that were not included, such as "Isn't it a Pity" and "All Things Must Pass. " I would much rather have those songs than yet another reproduction of Beatles-era songs.

My advice is to pick up "All Things Must Pass" and "Cloud 9. " Those two, to me, are the best albums of George's solo career. And you can find the Beatles songs on their "best of" CDs.

Good CD
Music and lyrics could be better balanced. The lyrics are great of course being George Harrison's, but not enough music is heard on each track of this CD. .
