Amazing Duo Contribution!
The use of strings is heavier than usual here but they make it work. When Justin Hayward and John Lodge teamed up for this album, it was pure magic. Very typical of the Moody Blues sound, gems like `This Morning' and `Nights Winters Years' are soulful and mind searching in their lyrics and sound. `I Dreamed Last Night' is a wonderfully rich ballad and `Maybe' got lots of airplay with its heavy cello and violins. It should have been a single. `Saved By The Music' is the only disappointment here as it tries to bring in an upbeat number, but sounds dated. The addition of `Blue Guitar' (a Justin Hayward solo) is nothing short of amazing with its guitar licks and vocals - a great finish to a classic album.

There are fans that say an SACD surround mix exists. If it does, this album would rival any Moody Blues collection any day.

Great Album
It quickly became one of my favorites. I had been a Moody Blues fan, collected all their albums and listened to them regularly when this album appeared. It is missing some of the variety of a typical Moody Blues album, which is probably attributable to it being the work of only two members, but what it lacks in variety it makes up for in emotional impact and consistency. The orchestration is beutiful, the melodys and lyrics are moving and memorable. What more could you ask for. If you like the first seven Moody Blues albums I cannot imagine that you would not consider this a rare find.

Great music!
I remember when this album came out in 1974 it blew me away! I just listened to it constantly. The music on this CD is magnificent. It always amazes me that people can write beautiful music such as this.

I agree, where is the SACD?
. This is a great album and worthy of an SACD multichannel reissue, not just a remastering and repackaging reissue.

Excellent CD
From the first groove to the last, the instrumentation was rich and full; The orchstration fused very well with Hayward's guitars and John Lodge's bass. When I first purchased the vinyl album back in the 1970's, I was impressed, not only by the music, but the production values as well.
I am pleased to say that in the re-mastering process the sound quality of the album is even better than I remember it!
The album itself is a reflection of the music of the Moody Blues (Hayward and Lodge are the core members). During the late 1960's and early 1970's the Moody Blues prided themselves on creating all their music without the help of additional studio musicians (except for Days of future Passed). Blue Jays, of course, was created with the assistance of additional studio musicians, who took the core Moody Blues sound and elevated it to a much higher level.
Highlights include the violin passages on the track "You" and the way the Horns and wind intruments mesh perfectly with Hayward's distorted guitar on "Saved By The Music. "
I highly recommend this album. You will not be disapointed.
