while i don't like some of the music the title track "last worthless evening" "new york minute" & "the heart of the matter" are VERY powerful songs that make this worth the buy for those 4 tracks alone i would definitly give this cd a listen it has a very strong message as well .

Great Album but WARNING: Disc is DTS Not PCM
I think his best ever. Don Henley's The End of the Innocence is a great album. Better than "Building the Perfect Beast" which is his second greatest album.

However, I give this four stars because Amazon has this disc labeled as a DVD Audio disc but failed to state what type it is.

It is not the PCM type which can be listened to on any DVD player, but the DTS type which requires a special decoder.

I bought this and now I can't listen to it unless I go buy expensive audio equipment to do so.

Amazon, please label your products better.

Where is the Don Henley of 'A New York Minute'?
I was looking forward to hearing well crafted and insightful lyrics and melodies, but instead received tired, bored and didactical rants. This was a very disappointing purchase. I listened through the first few tracks, and then tired and bored myself by the tiredness and boredom of the performer, I rifled through the rest in the hope of finding something of interest. There was nought, and CD, cover and all were tossed in to the rubbish. Sorry. If possible I would have rated this only half a star - for effort. I liked it so much that I bought 2 cds without realizing it!
I liked this compact disc and when it was in audio cassette. I bought this compact disc twice without realizing my error. I love the songs like the Heart of the Matter, the unforgettable New York Minute, and the classic End of the Innocence. I didn't like Shangri-La but this compilation of Don Henley's hits are worth the price if you buy it once or twice. It's still worth hearing again.
