Best female rap album by far.
This is by far, still the best hip-hop album created by a woman. Great production, great music, incredibly complex lyrics that match the music and flow of the songs (sometimes rivaling Nas' lyrics on Illmatic).
I hope Lauryn really did write and produce most of the songs (just to hope she can replicate this effort later).
But regardless of whether this is mostly solo or a collaborative work, this is a great piece of art.
A classic!
I am still amazed by it. Moer than a decade has passed since I got my hands on this CD again for a second later listen. Lauryn Hill is underrated. Wish she would come back and make more material. The song Zion is very touching, and overall what impresses me the most is that Lauryn has her head on straight, as you will see by her lyrics. Great CD.
Great Style
I love Lauryn Hill's style. This album was unbelievable. I really miss her music and hopes she comes out with something else soon.
she's amazing
she will be in Stockholm for the jazz fest this summer!. this album is amazing there is a reason why it won so many awards.
You could home school the next generation of R&B singers with this album
Like country music, I feel that the best stuff was done a long time ago and the majority of it these days is pretty soulless, commercial stuff. I don't listen to much contemporary R&B. Maybe I would feel different if I listened to more of it, but quick surveys of the FM radio dial don't encourage me to do that. However, several years back, I caught the video for "Doo Wop (That Thing)" on TV, and that song grabbed hold of me immediately. I bought the CD, loved it, and all this time later I still love it enough to jot down this 5-star review. There are a couple of unfortunate interludes that sound like Lauryn and her girlfriends chatting with a Dr. Phil clone, but they are mercifully brief.
