Tyrannosaurus Hives Led by Howlin' Pelle Almqvist, the Swedes give us their best indie-punk performance on their first album since 2000's Veni Vidi Vicious. I've heard the band's previous music, and this is probably the most destructive. With this album, the band begins to move away from it's lo fi-meets-punk origins and moves toward a more indie rock, sophisticated audience with it's Franz Ferdinand-like guitars and well thought out lyrics. There's just one problem: the album does not exceed 30 minutes (29:59. . . almost). The album consists of twelve great songs, but the longest one, "Walk Idiot Walk," is only three and a half minutes long. Like The Vines, The Hives never seem to be able to come out with albums that last longer than 35 minutes. But unlike The Vines, The Hives hardly ever have the time to slow things down and write a longer, quieter, track, and when they do, it's not very good. A good album needs to have a kind of balance, in which there are fast songs and slow songs and all of them are good. Besides this, it was a great album. I highly recommend it.
Amazing
They are all extremely talented and make great music. I just started listening to the hives and i was blown away. I just bought this CD in great condition used from an amazon. com marketplace seller. The CD cost about $2 plus $3 shipping, and it was in great condition! I definitely reccomend this CD to anyone interested in rock. I am mostly into classic rock and the hives are just as good or maybe better than some classic bands.
Awesome
I gave this CD to my 10 year old nephew and he loved it, said it was AWESOME, and proceded to put it on and dance to the whole thing! He said I scored.
In a class of their own
And I must say that I felt embarrrrrrassed because I consider myself a lover and fan of everything dealing with music but I did not even know about these guys. I like rock music but somehow these guys were not on my radar, but I saw them perform at venue in MD since I am from Baltimore. I knew of The Vines and that's what I thought when I went to the venue, "Maybe it is a Type-O". To make a long story short after the venue was over I was blown away, there live performance and showman-ship was LIKE THAT and so I made it a point to purchase every album that they ever put out. The Defense Rests.
Do you like good music? Then get this album.
The more i listen to the hives the more I love them, the rhythms and lyrics are infectious, and the performances impressive. I saw their performance of Walk Idiot Walk on the Letterman show, and i was thoroughly impressed with their rocking, i thought the hives were like a mix of the Kinks and the Rolling Stones.
Very few bands of the Oughties rock as hard as the Hives.
If you're sick of wuss rock, get this album and believe in rock and roll again.
highlights include: Walk idiot walk (of course), B for Brutus, A little more for a little you, and No Pun Intended.
