Of course the wonderful band isn't together anymore, we still have their great music to look back on. Ask for It is an EP by grunge rock band Hole. It's hard to critique this album since it's mainly b-sides. Drown Soda and Pale Blue Eyes are excellent songs and you get demo versions of Violet and Doll Parts but this cd is just ok, nothing special. I recommend Hole's Live Through This or Celebrity Skin instead.


A Must-Have for Hole Devotees
I'm going to assume that if you're reading this, you're either a burgeoning Hole fan (otherwise you'd already own it) or buying for someone who has some of their albums but not the full discography. I'm a Hole fan, I admit it.

That said, about half of the tracks on this CD are songs that even I - as a Hole devotee - could live without ever hearing again. HOWEVER, the other half rock out, and really should have made it onto an album. "Over the Edge", "Forming/Hot Chocolate Boy" and "Pale Blue Eyes" are all fantastic and not to be missed. They also constitute an interesting bridge of musical progression between Hole's first and and second albums: "Pretty on the Inside" and "Live Through This" respectively. The first album was the musical equivalent of a primal scream, whereas "Live Through This" - while still decidedly grunge rock - was slicker and showed greater maturity in content and style. The three great tracks on "Asking for It" strike a balance between the studio slick Hole and the angry but talented kids in a garage Hole of their first album. It should be noted of course that "Pale Blue Eyes" is not a Hole song but a cover of a Velvet Underground song, to which the band was not entirely true where lyrics were concerned, but as someone who also loves the Velvet Underground, I'd say the Hole version of "Pale Blue Eyes" is actually my favorite.

This would make a great addition to any grunge rock fan's collection, and is really de rigueur for any serious fan of Hole in particular.


You really want me
All the songs on it are hard-hitting and maintain that brassy throat-grabbing Hole sound. I love this CD. As out there as Love's lyrics can be there remains something very relatable about them, and that's captured well on this release.


Ask For It EP
Love her, or hate her you have to admit she is a great writer and preformer. Hole was an amazing band, fronted by the notorious Courtney Love. Ask For It [EP] was released in this midst of Kurt Cobain's death.

1) Over The Edge - A cover song, originally performed by the Wipers. I believe it was recorded while she was pregnant with Francis, although I'm not certain.
2) Pale Blue Eyes - Another cover song, except this one is originally by Lou Reed. Preformed live, and very emotional. The crowds whisles and some conversation can be heard, but overall a stand out.
3) Drown Soda - The first non-cover track of the album. It's a classic Hole song, a live version cdan be found on the "My Body, The Hand Gernade" album.
4) Doll Parts - A classic Hole, tragic yet album magic. This version is a Peel Session I believe, I enjoy it more then the 'Live Through This' recording.
5) Violet - One, if not the best, Hole single. Amazing song, another Peel Session.
6) Forming/Hot Chocolate Boy - This is a combination of two cover songs. Forming, which is originally by Germs, and Hot Chocolate Boy, which is originally by Beat Happening. This is a great closign tracks, it has it's fair share of screaming, which is a reminder of the 'Pretty On The Inside' era.

All in all this is an amazing Hole EP that is great for hardcore fans, and is a great way for new fans to get into Hole. .

. Ask for all that you need. This is one of the most inspiring piecEs. Songs so red and raw. after Kurt Cobain committed suicide this was releAsed. . I keep thinking of Violet. What a song. . Courtney's thE greatest.
