Bruce at his worst???? Listen up
I can't believe all of the bad reviews of this album! I think people fall in love with a certain period of music by an artist and get stuck in time. I had to write a review. The music strikes a chord in them and they want more of the same. Bruce is an extremely talented musician and takes a departure with this album, and a brilliant departure it is. I think compositionally Bruce has done some of his best work on his last three albums. People say the same thing about other great artists like Jeff Beck. People want the old and not the new. I don't know the last time anybody checked, but "Scenes from the SouthSide" and "The Way It Is" (both great albums) came out over 20 years ago. If you want music to bring you back to a comfortable spot where you can reminisce about the first time you heard "Mandolin Rain" instead of hearing great new music, this disc is not for you. The guy is really getting better at his craft, breaking new ground and blending musical styles like no other. How many guys do you know that can play bluegrass, jazz, classical, pop, rock, etc? and play them all well. Hornsby changes with the times and still makes great (if not his best music) today. This is good stuff and the album really grooves. "This Too Shall Pass" will give you chills. Check it out and ignore the bad reviews. Rock on Bruce, we are lucky to have you. See ya on tour in 2009 and looking forward to a new album yet again!.

I tried it once! Thanks Bruce.
My intrigue, love of fushion jazz and the one cent price tag got the best of me however, and I decided to purchase it. After fair warning by other reviewers and listening to the song clips, I was intrigued, but still almost passed on purchasing Swing Face. It needs to grow on you, but it quickly became a wierd wonderful listen. Obviously a turn off for Hornsby fans expecting Bruce to be Bruce. But there are likely as many music buffs who might never enjoy Swing Face because they find mainstream Hornsby to be a turn off and they too are expecting Bruce to be Bruce, and missing out on this turn to the left.

Different Bruce, but still great Bruce
Some of the grooves (Big Swing Face, Sticks and Stones, The Good Life) are among the best in his music, if not the very best. Yes, this album does sound somewhat different from lots of Bruce's other music (the extensive use of loops and electronica), but it's still some GREAT music.

If you're a longtime Hornsby fan, don't worry. It's good stuff.

Nice departure!
Reminds this listener of Harry Connick's approach on "She" and "Star Turtle" releases. Hornsby gets funky in this highly entertaining, yet underrated affair. Bruce stretches himself very tastefully here with good singing and energetic playing that makes one wonder how all this fun went largely unnoticed. .

Big Swing Face is great
This CD is so unbelievably catchy. All you losers can listen to your old Bruce Hornsby albums and keep your ears and minds shut to anything new. How can you not like the song, "The Chill"?
This is a great new sound for Hornsby. I hope he keeps making new and exciting music. I look forward to a lot more complaining from you "stick in the mud" fans. I think you are the same people who cursed Dylan for going electric.
