80's Iron Maiden, that's all! I mean, I can't find a boring or less-balanced track in this album, and for me It's been very hard to decide which is the best Iron Maiden CD: Powerslave or Piece of Mind, in the end I couldn't find an answer. It's not necessary to spend a lot of words describing this CD because all metal fans should have it in their CD collection.
A masterwork of Heavy Metal genre, appealing to all kinds or ages of listeners, this time, a must-buy for all!.
Perfect Album
This is classic Maiden at it's best. This is literally about the 15th copy I've had of Powerslave over the years, as I've either worn out or lost the other ones. The remix is awesome. Buy it.
MAIDEN RULES.
The glamour, the fortune, the pain...
Arguably this record could be considered the last of their classic era and was also the first to feature an unchanged lineup for consecutive records (a lineup that persists to this day with the addition of Janick Gers). Iron Maiden was hitting their stride as the world's premier heavy metal band when they released their fifth album, `Powerslave' in late summer 1984. Many consider `Powerslave' to be the definitive Maiden opus, and though I prefer the two previous records, it would hard to argue that `Powerslave' isn't their best. The album seemed to represent a true culmination of each band member's individual strengths. The songwriting was challengingly progressive as you would expect from Steve Harris, but Bruce Dickinson and Adrian Smith rose to the occasion as well and now all of Maiden's chief composers were working at the peak of their powers as the cracks in the `armour' would not appear for another six years. True metal classics include the powerhouse one-two punch of "Aces High" and "2 Minutes to Midnight". As a perfect bookend, the LP closes with "Powerslave" and "Rime of the Ancient Mariner", two more in Iron Maiden's unchallenged onslaught through the Eighties! In between you have capable if not excellent metal with not one but two odes to mano a mano, "Flash of the Blade" and "Duelists". The harmonies woven by Murray and Smith weave a profound tapestry over which Dickinson gives his trademark wail with the rumbling of one of metal's all-time greatest rhythm sections. Maiden's reach would not overextend their grasp as they proved with another metal touchstone in `Powerslave'. In the abyss I fall, the eye of Horus.
Congratulations!!! 25th Anniversary
This album marks a very high point of evolution of the Iron Maiden sounds from their beggining. Today we celebrate the quarter of century this masterpiece came out. More complex sound, fast, strong, sharp and as always in Maiden music, so rhythm.
The music of Powerslave is outstanding, incredible, its pure adrenaline, oh God I need to breath strong with this magical themes.
Powerslave become to represent a very conceptual record with egiptian and epic songs like Powerslave, Flash of the blade, The Duellist.
Beside we found more contemporary thems like the very famous Aces High and Two minutes to midnight.
The last superb The Rime of the Anciente Mariner is . . . well I don't have words, hear it, feel it. . . is the Iron Maiden Opera . . . so beatiful lyrics develops Steve Harris arround the Samuel Taylor Coleridge poem. What kind of inspiration would exist in this guy mind!!! My favorite Iron Maiden song with Powerlave and Infite Dreams.
The songs:
1. Aces High . . . 11/10 Adrenaline become musical notes!. . . . Excelent epic music with the lyrics about the RAF defending United Kingdom against Luftwaffe and the Third Riech.
2. 2 Minutes to Midnight . . . 8/10 Contemporay theme about total aniquilation of the war culture of death in the 80s era of cool war.
3. Losfer words (Big 'Orra) . . . 8/10 Very good instrumental music with melodic games between the bass, guitars and drums.
4. Flash of the blade . . . 8/10 Excelent epic song about the fight with swords or fencing. (another Bruce hobbie!) I stand out in the song the perfomance of Dickinson with beutiful changes of tones in his chorus.
5. The Duellists . . . 10/10 Another very beatiful perfomance of Dickinson in very good musical perfomance too. The musical notes flights fast and strong. You can appreciate classic rhythm guitars of Dave and Adrian stamping the sign or Iron Maiden sounds.
6. Back in the Village . . . 7. 5/8 A particular song a little different in my opinion of the rest of the songs. Very good, fast song too.
7. Powerslave . . . 15/10 The most great song ever composed by Bruce Dickinson. ufff The main song theme of the album. Absolutely transports you three thousand years ago. The lyrics in first person make narration of an Egiptian King which deny to let this world and deny to let the power. You can see it as a epic narration and a metaphor. The musical quality of this composition seems to be out of this world!!!
8. The Rime of the Ancient Mariner . . . 15/10 For me these song marks the highest point of the Maiden inspiration, these masterpiece remember you the intelectual level of Iron Maiden leader. Mr Steve Harris. 13 Minutes of music with your mind totally involved in the epic drama of the Mariner and his shipmates. Steve does a magistral "growth" of the Samuel Taylor Coleridge poem. The music is too an in extreme and incredible Opera with a different melodies on it. These song I think is a unique specie.
What more I can say. . . 25 years hearing Powerslave and each day I feel these album growing in the music history.
Thanks Iron Maiden, incredible for this young boys in the 80s the quality and creative of the music that deliver us.
