maiden least favorite live cd but i'd recomend this to any maiden fan. maiden least favorite live cd . just make sure to buy the remastered version , because the original does have a tinny bootleg sound to it. and yes live at donnington does sound better, but with this set list - should have this .
A Real Dud One...
He went ahead and decided to take a live album and produce it. You! Yes, you! Why in the HELL would you look at this page? AVOID IT AT ALL COSTS! Apparently, Steve Harris is this band's overlord. He was looking for a quality bootleg type of feel to it, which ended up turning into an audience recording with a few bits of background music.
Yes, the sound IS that bad! Just listen to "Iron Maiden" (The song, of course). All you can hear is the audience and almost barely the band.
Not to mention the sloppy band peformance too- Bruce's voice is shot, his screech that opens "Be Quick or Be Dead" made me laugh and cringe at the same time. Harris' bass is out of tune and sounds like a banjo. Janick destroys every solo, Nicko sounds as if he's banging on a bunch of plastic lids instead of drums and gets off track a few times. It would have been nice to have been able to heard "Afraid To Shoot Stranges", one of my favorite Maiden songs, but all I can hear is just a bunch of random noise.
Avoid this at all cost, someone should talk to Harris because this sounds bad. REALLY bad. Maiden are my most favorite band ever, but this just plain SUCKED!!!!!
And to the guy who claims this as this most favorite "maidenalbum" and has sold all of Iron Maiden's albums: How dare you!.
STOP PANNING THIS ALBUM!!!!
No, this is not Maiden's best live recording. Okay, I'm going to make this short and sweet. No, this is definitely not Dickenson's best performance. But you know what? They have so many friggin' live cds, it's hard to be the best and this still sounds good enough for me. Why would you give a 1 star to a maiden album with all their classics just because it's not perfect? This is just dumb to review it at that. With all this said, this is a great recording but probably is only for die-hard maiden fans like myself. If you really only want 1 live Maiden album, I would go to the Donnington CD. You can't go wrong there.
A Real Bad One
The argument about this being a live recording is paltry at best. I bought this CD, and after hearing how bad the sound quality was on this live recording, I got rid of it. Just because a band records a live album does not mean they should release bad sound quality. Anyone who knows anything about music knows that live recording is about the band performance, recording mix, and the final mastering done in the studio. I've heard audience recordings sound better than this mess released by Maiden. To coincide with Bruce Dickinson's final tour with Iron Maiden, the band issued two live recordings, A REAL LIVE DEAD ONE, and A REAL DEAD ONE. In fact, the two "Dead One" live releases have the worst sound quality of any released live recording by any band, and this is from a band that released "Maiden Japan" and "Live After Death. " The band doesn't sound as inspired as it does on its previous live collections.
Hype from Live After Death too tough act to follow
Bruce Dickinson sounds fine, so does Janick Gers and the sound quality. This album is underrated and Iron Maiden is awesome.
