"Some Good Songs But Mostly A Mediocre Compilation"Iron Maiden have released plenty of album, some more memorable than others while others are somewhat left to be desired. In the music buisiness a compilation album is either 1)a way to make quick cash or 2)something you can do instead of making a new album wich fills contract obligations of new albums. They have a reputation of being one of the best and most influential heavy metal bands, they released many classic albums such as "The Number Of The Beast" and "Piece Of Mind" and they went trought so much in their careers. Some band members quit, some got fired and there are stories but with all that they endured, good and bad times and having accomplished so much i think that if they are going to release any more Greatest Hits albums, they better be good ones. I mean one that really does justice to their careers and to the incredible musicians that they are. And with all the great stuff they did as mentionned earlier why didn't they pick the best of the best? They picked SOME of the best, but you know what i mean.
As with every other compilation and greatest hits albums they are some problems, either with the song choices, wrong dates in the booklet, not enough songs,an era of the band not covered, the time you can fit on the disc, compilations not approved by the band, too much compilations and so on. . . This compilation is no different. I mean it has some of those typical problems that you'll find on other compilations. "Edward The Great:Greatest Hits" has many problems, for one they covered the Bruce Dickinson era and they included two songs from the the Blaze Bayley era of Maiden wich is the most horrible era for the band, yet they did not cover the Paul Di'Anno era. And he was way better than Blaze and some of his songs rocked like "Phantom Of The Opera" and "Prowler" but they still didn't include him,a good Maiden compilation should cover ALL eras of the band even the worst and the not-so-great. Another, the track selection they have two songs from "The Number Of The Beast" and "Piece Of Mind",ONE ONLY of "Powerslave",but 4 from "Seventh Son Of A Seventh Son"?That is not at all a proper mix! They totaly missed some great songs like "Revelations","Hallowed Be Thy Name" and the epic "Rimes Of The Ancient Mariner"(alright this one is understandable as its too long for a compilation)!
There were two much better compilations "The Best Of The Beast" and "The Essential Iron Maiden" that were released prior to this "Edward The Not So Great" or whatever they call it. For a new fan tought, this would probably be acceptable if its the case then get the two compilations mentionned above and stay clear from this one its their worst compilation to date. One thing that is nice however is the addition of the song "Fear Of The Dark" taken from the 2001 Live album "Rock In Rio". This is not the way you want to remember Maiden, not with a compilation like this!2 Stars indeed. .
There already are (more than) enough Maiden compilations out there... take the hint.
There were 2 Maiden compilations before: Best of the Beast, The Essential Iron Maiden, and now "Edward the Great: Greatest Hits". I can't believe someone would rant about people giving this compilations bad reviews. This one should have been called "Edward the Lame: Non-Greatest Hits. "
I'll go over the pros and cons:
PROS:
-A Career-spanning single disc package that spans much of their career
-Has "Run To The Hills" and "The Trooper", 2 of their most prominent tracks
-Affordable price
-Should be found anywhere
CONS:
-The Sound remastering is Horrible
-VERY BAD TRACKLISTING! Where the hell is my all-time favorite, "No More Lies"? What about: Montsegeur, Face in the Sand, Dance of Death, The Mercenary, Dream of Mirrors, Blood Brothers, Ghost of the Navigator, Out of the Silent Planet, Lord of the Flies (considering Bayley sucks), Wrathchild, Purgatory, Charlotte the Harlot, Phantom of the Opera, Iron Maiden, Aces High, Losfer Words (Big 'Orra), Flash of the Blade, The Duellists, Back in the Village, Rime of the Ancient Mariner, or Hallowed Be Thy Name? They just chose the most overhyped songs for this collection.
-This cannot be a "Greatest Hits" compilation if it has "Bring Your Daughter to the Slaughter", "Man on the Edge" or "Futureal" on it! God!
-NO D'ANNIO STUFF! Yeah I know he sucked compared to Bruce Dickinson, but he's still better than Blaze Bayley
-"Fear of the Dark" is only the live version! WHY GOD WHY???"
This compilation is only for those unfamilliar with Iron Maiden, let alone Those who have just heard or are just getting into Iron maiden. I would reccomend buying this only if you haven't heard them.

I Love Iron Maiden
On this album, my favourite song is Wasted Years. I may go to an all clasical school, and only play clasical insruments, but hell, you've got to love Iron Maidens music. Bruce Dickinson all the way people!

Iron Metal
Their guitarest is so great and probably one of the best of all time. I never thought i would be interested in this sort of music but Iron Maiden is so much better than most metal bands. Each song has a sort of premise or idea that inspires it. I would have to say this is one of the most talented bands ever. I bought the album because i was trying new things. At first, the album kind of sat around. But when i finally put it in my stereo, i fell deeply. I couldn't stop listening to Flight of Icarus and 2 Minutes to Midnight. Once i was burnt out on those songs i started listening to the rest of the album and i loved the songs. Iron Maiden is currently my favorite band and i will soon get more of their CDs.
AWSOME
MY ONLY COMPLAINT ON THIS ALBUM IS THAT TWO OF MY FAVORITE IRON MAIDEN SONGS AREN'T ON HERE. ALL I GOT TO SAY ABOUT THIS BEST OF IRON MAIDEN CD IS THAT ITS F**KING GREAT. THOSE SONGS ARE "ACES HIGH" AND "HALLOWED BE THY NAME. " BUT ALL IN ALL ITS GREAT.
