For Completists
What makes it worth the price of admission aren't the new versions of "Number of the Beast" or "Run To The Hills," but the six tracks from Dance of Death and Dickinson's version of the Blaze-era track, "Lord Of The Flies. This CD isn't a must-have, even for die hard Maiden fans such as myself. "

I say this for a couple of reasons: the sound quality of the original Dance of Death release was so horrible, it's nice to have different versions where the peaks aren't clipped, distorted, and sacrificed to the label's desire to make the music LOUD. As for "Lord Of The Flies," I don't think Blaze's vocals were ever a good fit for Maiden, so I like hearing Dickinson rework them - even in a live setting.

Those are the tracks that make this CD a worthy (although non-essential) purchase for a die-hard Maiden fan. Casual fans who want live versions of classic tracks like "The Trooper" or the aforementioned "Number Of The Beast" would be better served by Live After Death (their best - and now classic - live album) or the brand-new Flight 666. It's hard to go wrong with either of those two CDs, as they both serve up excellent live versions of classic Maiden tracks without interruption. For some reason, the versions here seem lack-luster. Maybe that's just me - after all, I've heard them countless times before.

Whether Death On the Road is a good purchase for YOU depends on what you're looking for: if you want live versions of more recent material, this is an excellent purchase. If you want classic tracks, this isn't for you.

NO DISRESPECT TO MAIDEN
The choice of songs on this was a bit redundant, as many are available in Live After Death, a live album compliled when Bruce Dickinson's voice was still in it's prime (it's not bad now, but let's face it, it was better back in 1985). I, for one can take it or leave it, but not because of any lack of quality on the part of this, arguably the greatest classic metal band ever. It would have been better if the producers had chosen more of their newer song, rather than compile extra live repeats of songs that were better sung 20 years before.

Fine Live Album, but...
Now if you're totally new to Maiden I can see how this might be a way to introduce you to them from their oldies, but goodies up to their 2003 "Dance of Death" stuff. if you're a Maiden fan you're surely heard all these songs so many times before that you don't need yet another copy of them.

I'm a huge Maiden fan by the way. And this is not worth $25 like Amazon is currently trying to get for it. I say look around. I bet somebody has it for less. Or at least they should. I'd have the video of this concert, but after seeing the hyper-active editing of Rock in Rio and reading the reviews that almost universally bash Harris for his butchering of this concert as well I didn't want to see anymore two dozen camera angles per minute again for a couple hours.

maiden live
but the whole cd is good. this cd is worth the price just for dance of death and journeyman alone.

Maiden's 2nd best live album! Worth the money.
He's just another one of those idiots trying to fit in with the "OMG IT'S NEW THAT MEANS IT SUCKS" crowd. Before I get to the review, ignore Paul Divito's review, as the way he talks, and from how he randomly titled his review "Children of the Damned", he obviously hasn't heard this album. And aside from that, this live album is AWESOME! It was recorded in 2003 on their Dance of Death World Tour. The band is playing tightly here, Bruce sounds great. THe crowd are really into it as well, this is one of the loudest crowds I've ever heard on a live recording. The real highlight here is No More Lies. Bruce is in his top live-recording form here. He sounds really beautiful here, he even lets the crowd sing as usual. Journeyman is brilliant here too, I nearly cried when I heard it. It was that beautiful. Anyways, the CD set is definitely worth buying, even if you've already heard these songs 5000 times. Go ahead and buy it!.
