Not Half Bad but needs more soul singers
The CD starts out with good with Will I Am hip hop take on Tell Me When You Need Me and other standout tracks include De La Soul on It's A New Thing and Rapahel Saidiq on Harvest For The World. The Isley Brothers Taken To The Next cover/remix album isn't half bad it's just that with some soul singers doing the singing it could have been better. The great big killer is saved for last with Mos Def turning "Groove With You" into the title-says-it-all "Beauty in the Dark; A throwback that's as funky as the original; that's incredible. Personally I would have artisits like Silk or Usher on Between The Sheets and Musiq or Bilai could have killed Choosey Lover. For some real soul check Stokely's cover of Make Me Say It Again Girl and Riff's Take on Voyage To Atlantis.

Too Good to be true
I own this CD, along with other Isley Brothers CDs. I was just browsing this site and I came across this CD. I am purely disgusted with some of the reviews being left about this CD. It's a great CD. I love the way the old school beats blend with someone the new school voices. "Beauty in the Dark" is my favorite. Mos Def's voice really complements the "Groove With You" beat. All of the tracks on this CD are great.

OK, I'm an odd cat, I liked this remix!
That said, I was kinda concerned about the reviews I read on here, did they ruin these classics? Well, in my opinion, no. First, I have to admit I also bought the Essential Isley Brothers when I got this CD, I don't think you can own this remix without having the originals. I am old school and no big fan of hip-hop or rap. I will occasionally listen to it, but I don't own one single CD of that genre. This remix project doesn't deviate too far from the original deep soul of the Isley Brothers, just a few extra ingredients to spice things up a little, to bring them up to more modern sounds; but there is no disrespect to the original masterpieces. It is a nice compliment to any Isley Brothers collection, not a necessary one, but if you have expanded tastes than I think you will like this CD.

Groove Thang
Not all the tracks are keepers, thus three stars, but "That Lady" and "Between the Sheets" in particular are good updates to the classic Isley Bros. This album is likely to irritate the purists, so be forewarned (see below for some examples), but IMHO it's a pretty groovin' CD. sound. Don't replace your copies of 3+3 with this, but this disc offers some good funky soul for your next groove thing. .

Excellent
The cd is an excellent example of the group dynamically staying with the times. The Isley's are the only Ole Skool group that have been able to change with the times. I believe the critics of this album are so accustom listening to the Isley's old stuff that they cannot fathom the new sound. All of my friends that have listened to the album loved it. This is my first review ever and I was prompted by such the bad reviews this cd had gotten and just had to. . . . . .
Great job guys, I love the old and new sound keep up the as the book says, "Who moved my Cheese" in order to survive in business one must be flexible and adapt to changes. I SALUTE YOU!
